As he returned to face the Giants in San Francisco on Friday, Bruce Bochy was in a tie for first place in the American League West, but he had a lot on his mind. The Texas Rangers have underperformed at the plate, led by familiar face Joc Pederson, who somehow has zero RBI through 21 appearances. On Thursday, they got walked off in Sacramento by the Athletics, and a day after that gut punch, Bochy began his media session by giving a lengthy update on promising young starter Kumar Rocker, who just went on the IL with a shoulder injury. The Rangers have a lot to sort out, but Bochy is thrilled he's doing it in San Francisco this weekend.

The Kansas City Royals' offensive struggles have been so wide-reaching, it's hard to know who to hold accountable. It's hard to stand out on a stat sheet full of slumpers, but second baseman Michael Massey has been particularly to begin the season. On Friday, Oliver Vandervoort of FanSided asserted that the Royals "must consider" relegating Massey to the bench, perhaps putting Jonathan India back at his natural second base position rather than switching him between left field and third base.

Paul Goldschmidt (1B - NYY)
4/25/25 11:00 AM - Former MVP Turning Back Clock in Career Renaissance With New York Yankees. Heading into the offseason, one of the positions that the New York Yankees knew they had to address was first base. The Yankees decided to snag Paul Goldschmidt away from the St. Louis Cardinals to replace him at first base on a one-year, $12.5 million deal. Not a major commitment by any means, but certainly still a risk given some of the decline that the 2022 National League MVP has shown over the last two seasons. After recording a .317/.404/.578 slash line during his MVP campaign, his numbers dropped to .268/.363/.447 the following year and were even worse in 2024 (.245/.302/.414).

Considering the Angels' end-of-season pattern, MLB insider David Schoenfield suggested some potential trade options for the Halos ahead of the deadline, including All-Star reliever Kenley Jansen. “At 37, Jansen is a long way from his dominant days with the Dodgers, but he still gets the job done, relying almost exclusively on his cutter,” Schoenfield wrote. Schoenfield named three teams that the Angels could try to trade Jansen to.

4/25/25 11:00 AM - Red Sox Blockbuster Trade Idea Ships Forsaken $90 Million Slugger To Royals. There's no mystery about what the Kansas City Royals are seeking during the 2025 season: quality major league hitters. At some point, one figures the Royals will have to make a trade to attempt to inject life into this offense. Fortunately, the Boston Red Sox have provided a clue, because they've got one solid hitter on their roster who they can't seem to find any place for whatsoever. On Thursday, Athlon's Daniel Schmidt proposed that Red Sox outfielder/designated hitter Masataka Yoshida, who is on an extended rehab stint trying to recover from labrum surgery in the offseason, could be a trade target for the Royals this season.
