Jordan Beck (OF - COL)

4/25/25 9:52 PM -
Red-hot Jordan Beck homers twice but Rockies lose to Reds. Jordan Beck has suddenly morphed into Mickey Mantle. The 24-year-old left fielder hit two home runs — he has five dingers in his last three games — and brought the Rockies to the brink of victory on a raw, drizzly Friday night at Coors Field. Beck's 437-foot solo shot off Tony Santillan in the eighth inning pulled Colorado to within a run. On a night when the Rockies' offense finally heated up, pitching let them down, sending them to their fourth consecutive loss that left them with a 4-21 record.

Spencer Steer hit a two-run homer and the Cincinnati Reds' fourth lead of the night held up for 8-7 victory over Colorado on Friday night as a historically bad start continues for the Rockies. The Reds took a 1-0 lead in the first off starter Kyle Freeland. Elly De La Cruz singled with two outs and scored on a base hit by Noelvi Marte.

How bottom of order is powering Cubs' offense to top of MLB. Carson Kelly needed a moment to take in what he was hearing last Friday. Batting eighth in the lineup, the Chicago Cubs catcher had already hit two home runs and driven in five in what would end up as a wild 13-11 comeback win over the Arizona Diamondbacks. "I had to take a step out," Kelly told ESPN with a smile the next day. Chants directed toward a catcher at the bottom of the order aren't commonplace in MLB -- but then again, neither is the month the Cubs catcher is having nor the production the team is getting from the bottom of the lineup.

4/25/25 3:00 AM -
Reese Kaplan -- How Sabermetrics Changed Lineup Construction. Yes, we now have Designated HItters in both leagues. What is perhaps a bit slower for us to resolve in our heads is how batting orders are now created as compared to say 30 years ago. If you grade players on various offensive abilities on a scale of 1-5 with ratings being assigned for their batting average, their home run power, their ability to draw walks and how well they steal bases, it would appear that lineups are now constructed very differently. Look no further than the current New York Mets lineup to see that they took a guy who is a positive across the board in all of these categories and inserted him not in the middle-of-the-lineup run producing position, but instead you have Francisco Lindor leading off games which means his first at-bat is a bit of a giveaway in terms of driving in runners.
