Matthew Liberatore pitched six-plus solid innings, and Brendan Donovan had a pair of singles and drove in a run to help the St. Louis Cardinals beat the Milwaukee Brewers 3-2 Friday night. Liberatore (2-2) allowed two runs, one earned, on five hits with four strikeouts. Ryan Helsley pitched a scoreless ninth to earn his fourth save. 4/16/25 | The unique strategy the Cardinals are using to maximize pitching talent. Oliver Marmol and the St. Louis Cardinals will be adding a sixth arm to their rotation in Matthew Liberatore. The 25-year-old pitcher will make his first start of the season on April 19th against the New York Mets. The Cardinals are including Liberatore in an effort to prevent future injuries to Sonny Gray and company. Gray and the rest of the Cardinals rotation has been one of the better groups in the MLB over the past week, giving up four runs combined over the team's last four games. Matthew Liberatore pitched six shutout innings, Willson Contreras and Jordan Walker homered and the St. Louis Cardinals beat the Philadelphia Phillies 7-0 on Sunday. Liberatore (1-1) allowed three hits, walked one and matched his season high with seven strikeouts.
