| 4/16/25 | Umpire Hunter Wendelstedt leaves Mets-Twins game after line drive foul ball hits him in the face. Veteran umpire Hunter Wendelstedt had to leave the game in Minnesota after he was struck in the face behind first base by a line drive foul ball. Wendelstedt instantly hit the ground after a direct hit from the liner off the bat of New York's Tyrone Taylor in the seventh inning. Both Taylor and Twins pitcher Louis Varland winced immediately after seeing where the ball hit Wendelstedt. The 53-year-old ump was down for a minute while being tended to by medical staff. As the broadcast returned from commercial for the top of the 11th inning, Hernandez is heard saying “piss-poor hitting.” Silence followed, then seconds later, play-by-play announcer Gary Cohen started speaking as the music that plays upon return from commercial break began. The comment came after the 10th inning, in which Mets outfielder Tyrone Taylor singled to put runners on base, but was followed by a fly out from Luis Torrens, a pop up by Francisco Lindor, and a groundout from Juan Soto.
