Adrian Houser (P - TB)

8/3/25 1:31 AM -
Adrian Houser trade grade for Rays, White Sox. The Tampa Bay Rays have never been afraid to get creative at the trade deadline, and this year was no exception. With their rotation battered and playoff hopes still alive, the Rays made a shrewd move, acquiring right-hander Adrian Houser from the Chicago White Sox in exchange for infielder Curtis Mead and minor league pitchers Duncan Davitt and Benjamin Peoples. On paper, this is a classic Tampa Bay win-now move with minimal downside.

Rays send down struggling Kevin Kelly, hoping for a quick return. TAMPA — The Rays tried to give reliever Kevin Kelly the chance to pitch through his ongoing struggles, but that didn’t seem to be working. So, Saturday they instead demoted him to Triple-A Durham with the hope that he can quickly get straightened out in a less pressurized environment and earns a quick return. “His stuff is very similar to what it’s always been, just hasn’t had the success,” ...

Marcus Stroman Sends Message After Yankees Release. With reigning American League Rookie of the Year Luis Gil returning from the injured list for his season debut on Sunday against the Miami Marlins, the New York Yankees knew they'd have to remove one of their five starters from the rotation. With Max Fried, Carlos Rodón and Will Warren rather firmly entrenched while Cam Schlittler has shown signs of potentially developing into a frontline option, the Yankees decided to release two-time All-Star Marcus Stroman amidst a disappointing 2025 campaign. The 34-year-old had turned in four straight solid starts for New York upon being activated off the injured list on June 29, but he gave up a combined eight earned runs over 8 1/3 frames in his final two starts on July 26 and July 31.

Despite targeting a starting pitcher as well, the Astros realized that they have multiple pitchers coming off the injured list soon, and didn't make a deal in the pitching staff.

The exit triggered questions given his recent injury history, but Espada clarified the situation postgame. When the deadline was done, the Jays had acquired a starting pitcher (hopefully), a pair of relievers, an infielder, and a catcher. At first glance, their biggest move was the acquisition of 2x CY Young winner, Shane Bieber, from the Cleveland Guardians. This could potentially be a huge win for the Blue Jays, but the hiccup is that he hasn't thrown a pitch in the majors since April of last season.

8/2/25 4:59 AM -
Yankees' Aaron Judge Nearing Activation But Not Full Health. New York Yankees slugger Aaron Judge is almost back, but his right elbow is not entirely on board. The 2024 American League MVP is targeting a return to the lineup during next week's road trip in Texas, with manager Aaron Boone eyeing Tuesday or Wednesday as a realistic activation date. If all goes well, he will slot back in as designated hitter, at least to start. Whether the Yankees follow through on that remains uncertain.

The 30-year-old third baseman went from player-friendly, laid-back Coors Field to Yankee Stadium, where baseball is a religion and failure is not an option.

How past trade deadline failures shaped Cubs approach in 2025. The Chicago Cubs were burned by their 2017 trade with the Chicago White Sox, and it seems to be Jed Hoyer's determination that it never happens again. The infamous trade saw the Cubs give up their top hitting prospect, Eloy Jimenez, and their top pitching prospect, Dylan Cease, to address a massive need in their starting rotation with the addition of Jose Quintana. The deal was made a few weeks before the 2017 trade deadline, and it effectively saw the Cubs set the price for a controllable starting pitcher.
