The Colorado Rockies have placed closer Seth Halvorsen on the 15-day injured list due to a right elbow strain. He threw just five pitches in the ninth inning on Saturday against Pittsburgh before needing to leave the game. Interim manager Warren Schaeffer said the injury didn't look good. Halvorsen leads the Rockies with 11 saves. Colorado recalled right-hander Nick Anderson and catcher Braxton Fulford from Triple-A Albuquerque on Sunday. The team also optioned infielder Michael Toglia to Albuquerque. The 25-year-old Halvorsen is 1-2 with a 4.99 ERA this year. He made his big league debut in August 2024.

8/3 1:56 PM Tanner Houck (P-BOS) Red Sox pitcher Tanner Houck to undergo Tommy John surgery. Boston Red Sox right-hander Tanner Houck’s attempt to come back this season is over. Manager Alex Cora said Saturday that Houck will undergo Tommy John surgery. An All-Star last season, the 29-year-old Houck went on the injured list in mid-May with a right flexor strain after going 0-3 with an 8.04 ERA in nine starts. He’s the third Boston starting pitcher to suffer a season-ending injury. Hunter Dobbins tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee covering first base last month and Kutter Crawford underwent right wrist surgery.

The Chicago White Sox placed infielder Miguel Vargas on the 10-day injured list on Sunday because of a left oblique strain. Vargas, 25, was scratched from Saturday night's 1-0 victory at the Angels.
