Texas Rangers manager Bruce Bochy acknowledged Friday that his second starting lineup of the season is “pretty much” the order he plans to run out on a daily basis save for “a tweak here or there.” Here or there, in this case, may most often be in reference to one position. The Rangers started Kyle Higashioka at catcher on opening day Thursday vs. the Boston Red Sox and left-handed ace Garrett Crochet.

3/09/25 Why Jacob deGrom's spring debut left Rangers' Kyle Higashioka with 'sense of peace'. The raves continue for Jacob deGrom's spring debut. Veteran catcher Kyle Higashioka, who caught deGrom's two perfect innings of work on Saturday, had more effusive praise. In his first outing of the spring, deGrom struck out three against Kansas City in two innings, needing just 31 pitches (21 strikes) to complete his work. “It was fantastic, kind of exactly what I had heard about him,” said Higashioka, who also had caught deGrom's first bullpen of the spring.

Texas Rangers fans were treated to a beautiful symphony as Jacob deGrom threw in the bullpen and showcased that he is fully healthy in preparation for the 2025 season. There are certain players who, when they enter the cage for batting practice or take the mound to throw a bullpen, other teammates stop to watch. In speaking with a few of deGrom's teammates after his first bullpen session of the year, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News started with the man who was the catcher, offseason addition Kyle Higashioka.

2/01/25 Insider Reveals Padres' Plan at Catcher Following First MLB Signing of Offseason. The San Diego Padres have a catching situation to figure out but it is slowly becoming a little clearer. San Diego has signed catcher Elias Díaz to a one-year deal, the team announced Thursday. The 34-year-old wrapped up the 2024 season with the Padres after being released by the Colorado Rockies in August. In 12 games, he hit .190 with a .720 OPS while filling a backup role behind Kyle Higashioka during the final stretch and into the postseason.
