Two veteran left-handers who started their careers with the Detroit Tigers were on opposite ends of option decisions this weekend. The Chicago Cubs declined to exercise their $10 million option for Drew Smyly. Meanwhile, San Francisco Giants starter Robbie Ray declined to exercise an opt-out clause in his contract. Ray, 33, pitched for the Tigers briefly in 2014 and was traded to the Arizona Diamondbacks after the season as part of a three-team deal in which the Tigers acquired pitcher Shane Greene. The team hasn't won a postseason game since 2017. Chicago was unable to improve on its 83-win 2023 campaign in a disappointing 2024 season.
