4/10/25 | Red Sox Release All-Star Pitcher Following Tough Stint. Nothing seemed to go Matt Moore's way during his time with the Boston Red Sox. The veteran relief pitcher, who signed a minor league deal with Boston in late February, didn't make the Opening Day roster but decided to stick with the Red Sox and got outrighted to Triple-A Worcester. It felt like Moore would get a shot to make an impact in Boston's bullpen at some point this season given his track record. Moore has 13 MLB seasons under his belt and was just three seasons removed from posting a 1.95 ERA with five saves to go along with 83 strikeouts in 74 innings for the Texas Rangers. 3/24/25 | Former All-Star Makes Surprise Decision To Remain With Red Sox After Spring Demotion. The end of Major League Baseball spring training is a long series of snap decisions. When a veteran player on a minor-league deal is told at the end of camp he didn't make the team, they can often choose whether or not to return to free agency or accept an assignment to Triple-A. Fortunately for the Boston Red Sox, one former All-Star chose the latter. On Sunday, when 35-year-old left-handed pitcher Matt Moore was informed he wouldn't make the Opening Day roster, he declined his opt-out and accepted a spot with Triple-A Worcester to begin the 2025 season. It's been a long and winding journey for Moore to get to Boston, as the former Tampa Bay Rays starter has moved from team to team rapidly throughout the past decade. However, the veteran left-hander won't be leaving the organization. Moore, who signed a minor-league deal with Boston in late February, had an opt-out decision to make after he was not included in Alex Cora's Opening Day pitching staff. The 2013 All-Star on Sunday informed reporters of the verdict : He will head to Triple-A Worcester instead of cutting ties with the Red Sox altogether and hitting free agency, per WEEI's Rob Bradford.
