4/23/25 Red Sox trade idea adds flamethrowing closer to already formidable bullpen. Despite not having a set closer entering the season, the back-end of the Boston Red Sox bullpen has been surprisingly dominant. Thus far, the Red Sox have alternated between veteran left-hander Aroldis Chapman and right-hander Justin Slaten in the ninth inning, depending on the matchup, and both pitchers have excelled. Chapman has struck out 14 batters against just four walks while displaying his usual triple-digit fastball, and Slaten has made nine scoreless appearances in ten total outings while retiring 21 straight batters. The Red Sox have also received strong contributions from oft-injured right-hander Garrett Whitlock, who has posted a 1.84 ERA and a 19-5 strikeout-to-walk ratio in mostly a multi-inning role.

4/19/25 Nationals Could Trade All-Star To Red Sox: 'Good Bet To Be Dealt'. The Boston Red Sox don't know who their go-to closer will be in September, but they have three options at the moment. 37-year-old veteran Aroldis Chapman began the season as Boston's guy after a strong Spring Training, and Chapman hasn't done much to take himself out of the running. The former New York Yankees closer is 2-1 with a 1.23 ERA, 12 strikeouts, and four saves in nine appearances (7 1/3 innings pitched). Justin Slaten is another option at closer for Boston.

4/13/25 Red Sox Could Trade For Cardinals All-Star, Ruining Yankees' Rumored Plan. Are the Boston Red Sox completely comfortable with their closer situation? 37-year-old Aroldis Chapman has been solid to begin the 2025 campaign, but not perfect. The first blemish on Chapman's resume as a Red Sox arrived on Saturday when he allowed a walk-off RBI single to Chicago White Sox infielder Brooks Baldwin in the bottom of the ninth. Baldwin's frozen rope off Chapman brought home White Sox outfielder Luis Robert Jr., whom Chapman had walked earlier in the inning.
