Carlos Santana homered and the Cleveland Guardians held off the Chicago White Sox 3-2 on Wednesday night in a game that ended on a bizarre play. The White Sox had the bases loaded with two outs in the ninth inning when Miguel Vargas singled through the hole at shortstop. Carlos Santana celebrated his 39th birthday with a pair of base hits, crossing the plate to score the winning run on a bases-loaded walk by Nolan Jones in the bottom of the ninth Tuesday as the Guardians nipped the White Sox, 1-0, at Progressive Field. The milestone day for Santana included reaching 1,800 hits in the big leagues, becoming the seventh active player to reach the mark and just the 48th switch-hitter with at least that many hits all-time.
