When the Guardians first traded for Carlos Santana in July 2008 from the Dodgers, he was a prized catching prospect. Santana has been around the diamond and around the game for a long time. Santana's 2,100 games are the second most in the big leagues among active players. McCutchen is 38, while Santana turned 39 on April 8.

4/09/25 Santana homers and Guardians hold on for 3-2 win over White Sox in unusual finish. Carlos Santana homered and the Cleveland Guardians held off the Chicago White Sox 3-2 on Wednesday night in a game that ended on a bizarre play. The White Sox had the bases loaded with two outs in the ninth inning when Miguel Vargas singled through the hole at shortstop. Jacob Amaya scored and it seemed Mike Tauchman was going to tie the game before he appeared to injure himself while rounding third base.

4/09/25 Carlos Santana trades birthday slaps for a pair of hits in home opener win: Guardians breakfast today. Carlos Santana celebrated his 39th birthday with a pair of base hits, crossing the plate to score the winning run on a bases-loaded walk by Nolan Jones in the bottom of the ninth Tuesday as the Guardians nipped the White Sox, 1-0, at Progressive Field. The milestone day for Santana included reaching 1,800 hits in the big leagues, becoming the seventh active player to reach the mark and just the 48th switch-hitter with at least that many hits all-time. Santana also took his lumps from fellow Dominican slugger José Ramírez, who grinned as he told reporters prior to the game that the only birthday gift he gave his teammate was “two smacks in the face” as the two kicked back near their adjacent lockers in the Guardians' newly-renovated clubhouse.
