4/23/25 | Red Sox Could Target Twins' $4.1 Million Fireballer In Trade Deadline Surprise. The Boston Red Sox should be one of Major League Baseball's most active teams at the 2025 trade deadline. Every contender needs a strong bullpen, and the Red Sox are a little thin in that category. Beyond Justin Slaten, Garrett Whitlock, and Aroldis Chapman, the Red Sox have struggled to get quality innings from their middle relievers. 4/22/25 | Red Sox Have Reason To Inquire About Athletics' $10 Million Reliever. The Boston Red Sox would be wise to keep an eye on the trade market for late-inning relievers. Justin Slaten is beginning to show signs that he could be Boston's closer, but nothing is set in stone. Aroldis Chapman began the season as the closer but hasn't been outstanding (Chapman allowed a home run on Monday), and Liam Hendriks's capabilities in 2025 are still impossible to predict. If Boston is serious about contending — as it should be with its current roster — chief baseball officer Craig Breslow needs to ensure that the Red Sox bullpen is supplied with enough talent to close games in October. 3/07/25 | Hallsville's Slaten throws scoreless inning in spring appearance for Red Sox. Former Hallsville Bobcat Justin Slaten faced the minimum in an inning of work in the Boston Red Sox 20-5 spring training win over Miami on Friday. The righthander entered the game in the fifth inning and struck out Rob Brantly and Kyle Stowers in order. Derek Hill singled to right field but was thrown out at second base to end the inning and the day for Slaten. Source: https://www.kltv.com/2025/03/07/hallsvilles-slaten... |
1/21/25 | Padres $46 Million All-Star Floated As Potential Red Sox Blockbuster Trade Target. It's nearly the end of January, and the Boston Red Sox don't have a solid answer on who their closer will be for the 2025 season. Preferably, that player would have closing experience, because neither Justin Slaten nor Liam Hendriks operated as a closer in 2024 for very different reasons. San Diego Padres star closer Robert Suarez has reportedly received trade interest this winter, and the Red Sox could look to pounce amid San Diego's financial woes. 1/16/25 | This Red Sox 3-Player Trade Idea Would Bring Coveted Cardinals All-Star To Boston. 2024 rookie Justin Slaten showed well in his debut season in the bullpen, while 36-year-old Liam Hendriks is looking to bounce back from Tommy John surgery to recapture his two-time Reliever of the Year form. The Red Sox cannot, however, afford to sit on their hands for the rest of the winter in the relief pitching market. Trade talks have started to quiet down around the St. Louis Cardinals, but they have a two-time All-Star closer in Ryan Helsley who has widely been speculated to be available.
