3/28/25 Former Padres Top Prospect Traded For Superstar Undergoing Tommy John Surgery. A former San Diego Padres top prospect is set to undergo Tommy John surgery this season, ending his 2025 campaign and likely some of 2026, too. Right-handed pitcher Drew Thorpe, who was the headliner of two significant Padres trades during the 2023-24 offseason, was told last weekend that he would be going under the knife to repair his elbow. “I didn't know it was super serious,” Thorpe said to reporters of the initial pain.

3/20/25 White Sox righty Drew Thorpe suffers another setback in return from elbow injury. The latest came Thursday morning at Camelback Ranch, where right-hander Drew Thorpe exited a minor league game with soreness. “Sounds like discomfort of the elbow,” manager Will Venable said, delivering the initial report. Thorpe, 24, was the top commodity acquired along with three others from the Padres a year ago for Sox ace Dylan Cease.

3/09/25 Drew Thorpe 'in a good spot' as he works way back into White Sox rotation. Right-hander Drew Thorpe has operated behind the scenes as he works his way back to the starting rotation following elbow surgery. Thorpe is scheduled for his first live batting practice Tuesday. The former Minor League Pitcher of the Year acquired in the Dylan Cease trade a year ago, Thorpe made a nice first impression last season, pitching to a 3.03 ERA in his first seven starts. Two bad starts, his last two of the season in late July following a streak of six straight with six or more innings, ballooned the ERA to 5.71.
