With the bullpen facing a constant pinch due to a shortage of long relievers, the club on Wednesday optioned Marc Church to Triple-A Round Rock and recalled lefty Jake Latz. Church, 24, had made the opening day roster for the first time, but had appeared in just five of the club's first 17 games as the Rangers tried to walk a delicate balance between his development and their late-inning hierarchy. Back in high school in Atlanta, a buddy challenged Marc Church, a shortstop, that he couldn't hit 88 mph off the mound in a game as a pitcher. Church hit 90, picked up the bills, figured he'd have some gas money for his Honda CR-V and a bit left over for a couple of Chick-fil-As or Chipotle bowls. Church's talent put him on the radar as a potential pitching prospect.
