| 4/20/25 | Pirates Get Great News on Infielder's Injury. The Pittsburgh Pirates may have one of their infielders back for their series finale vs. the Cleveland Guardians at PNC Park. The Pirates trailed 3-0 in the bottom of the ninth inning and first baseman Enmanuel Valdez came up, facing Guardians All-Star closer in right-handed pitcher Emmanuel Clase. Valdez took a pitch off of Clase and hit it deep to center field, giving him extra bases. The Pittsburgh Pirates had a opportunity that could've started a comeback vs. the Cleveland Guardians at PNC Park, but a controversial call from the umpire crew ended those hopes. | 4/13/25 | Pirates Offense Sputters Again in Sweep by Reds. The Pirates' offensive woes continued Sunday in a 4-0 loss to the Reds, who completed their first series sweep of Pittsburgh since August 2021. Cincinnati held the Pirates to just two hits, dropping them to 5-11 on the season. The Reds ended the game retiring 23 hitters in a row, and the Pirates did not have a baserunner after the second inning. After first coming over to the Boston Red Sox in August of 2022, Enmanuel Valdez got plenty of chances to succeed in the organization, but he never quite capitalized on the opportunities when he received them. Steinbrenner Field in Tampa, Fla. Enmanuel Valdez will get his second start at first base in the past three games, first doing so in the series finale vs. the Miami Marlins on March 30, and hit sixth.
