The Tigers (14-9) play the San Diego Padres (16-7) at 6:40 p.m. at Comerica Park. Detroit won the series opener, 6-4, on Monday night. The Tigers have now won nine of their first 11 home games, marking their best home start in Comerica Park history and their best overall since 1984. Carpenter, who missed the series opener with hamstring soreness, will lead off and serve as the designated hitter Tuesday.
