4/23/25 Buster Posey's influence is evident is SF Giants' roster continuity. When David Villar was called into the Triple-A manager's office over the weekend, he had no reason to believe the message Dave Brundage was about to deliver. “My initial reaction was hey, maybe I'm getting moved, or maybe something else is happening, or it's just a check-in,” Villar said Tuesday, after the River Cats skipper told him to get to Anaheim to replace Casey Schmitt on the Giants' roster. Not only had Villar been designated for assignment weeks earlier, San Francisco had gone the first three-plus weeks of the regular season without calling down once to Triple-A Sacramento for reinforcements. In fact, the Giants hadn't made a single roster move from Opening Day until Saturday, when Schmitt was placed on the injured list with an oblique strain.

3/29/25 San Francisco Giants Veteran Utilityman Clears Waivers, Back in Minors. When the San Francisco Giants puts David Villar on waivers, they knew they were taking a chance on not getting him back. On Saturday, NBC Sports Bay Area reported that Villar cleared waivers and the Giants outrighted him to Triple-A Sacramento, which puts him on stand-by in case he's needed later this season. For his career he's slashed .200/.288/.400 with 15 home runs and 40 RBI.

3/12/25 'Part of the business': Out of options, SF Giants' Villar navigates uncertain future. David Villar's time with the Giants could be nearing its end. Villar, 28, is out of minor-league options. The Giants must designate him for assignment if he doesn't make the cut, and he's unlikely to pass through waivers. “Obviously, it's part of the business,” Villar said.
