4/05/25 | Seattle Mariners on Wrong Side of Multiple Missed Umpire Calls in Crushing Friday Loss. The same was true on Friday afternoon when the Seattle Mariners lost 10-9 to the San Francisco Giants in 11 innings. Simply put, the Mariners had chances to flat-out win the game, and they didn't take them. With the runner at second and nobody out, Carlos Vargas threw a pitch that crossed-up catcher Cal Raleigh. While Raleigh moved awkwardly across the zone, the ball was well within the zone. Source: https://www.si.com/mlb/mariners/news/seattle-marin... |
3/10/25 | Mariners broadcaster laughs off scary incident during spring training game. Rick Rizzs isn't going to let a little old contusion — OK, it's a massive, nasty lump — on the back of his head stop him from doing the job he's held with the Mariners longer than any other broadcaster in team history. Rizzs and his partner Gary Hill were on the call of Monday's Cactus League game vs. the Brewers at American Family Fields of Phoenix. It was the only radio broadcast available of the game that also wasn't being televised. In the fifth inning, Mariners hard-throwing right-hander Carlos Vargas fired a 1-2 fastball to Milwaukee's Rhys Hoskins, who couldn't quite catch up with the pitch.
