4/03/25 | Five takeaways from Giants' excellent 2025 season-opening road trip. The Houston Astros run a promotion at Daikin Park that borrows from the old "steal a taco" campaign from the World Series. If an Astro steals a base, every fan will get a coupon for five free wings from Pluckers Wing Bar as they exit the park. There's a funny graphic that flashes across the scoreboard when the wings are clinched, but they had to wait until the second inning of the final game of their series with the Giants to use it. Jeremy Peña drew a one-out walk and successfully snagged second against backup catcher Sam Huff. Source: https://www.nbcsportsbayarea.com/mlb/san-francisco... |
2/25/25 | Giants notes: Murphy's absence opens doors for others in camp. As Sam Huff started to round the bases on Saturday, he heard a familiar low grumble. Huff's homer in the Cactus League opener came against his former Texas Rangers teammates, and he could pick out Bruce Bochy's voice as he jogged past the home dugout at Surprise Stadium. With each passing day, the odds increase that Huff soon might settle into a clubhouse where Bochy won three of his four rings. The Giants announced on Monday morning that backup catcher Tom Murphy had an epidural on a mid-back disk herniation and will miss several weeks. 2/23/25 | San Francisco Giants Catcher Blasts Home Run Against Former Team. For years, the Texas Rangers hoped that Sam Huff would be their catcher of the future. Selected in the seventh round of the 2016 MLB Draft out of Arcadia High School in Phoenix, Ariz., he was at one time their top-ranked catcher. Texas started the clock on him during the COVID-19 shortened 2020 season. In 198 at-bats with the Rangers, he slashed .258/.313/.768 with 10 home runs and 20 RBI. 1/08/25 | Former Texas Rangers top catching prospect Sam Huff claimed by San Francisco Giants. Former Texas Rangers top catching prospect Sam Huff was claimed off waivers by the San Francisco Giants, the club announced Wednesday. Huff, 26, was once a top 100 prospect in baseball who showed considerable power, but his opportunities with the Rangers have only dwindled since his debut four years ago. The Rangers selected the Phoenix, Ariz. native in the seventh round of the 2016 MLB draft. Source: https://www.dallasnews.com/sports/rangers/2025/01/... |
