4/04/25 | 'He was painting the zone': Tigers' Jack Flaherty quiets White Sox in 7-4 win. White Sox catcher Matt Thaiss started the second inning with a lengthy nine-pitch at-bat. After drawing a walk with two outs, shortstop Brooks Baldwin pounced on a fastball high in the zone to left field for a double. The Tigers pitching staff held the Sox lineup in check, particularly right-hander Jack Flaherty. 3/30/25 | White Sox offense "one knock short" in series loss against Angels. Catcher Matt Thaiss promptly drew a walk, putting runners on first and second base with no outs. Third baseman Miguel Vargas had a poor at-bat, swinging at the first pitch, resulting in a pop-up for the first out. On the next at-bat, infielder Brooks Baldwin grounded into a double play, ending the rally in Sunday's 3-2 loss to the Angels. 1/22/25 | Angels 2025 spring training position preview: catchers. Angels pitchers and catchers are scheduled to report to spring training on Feb. 11. Offensively, he looked like one of the best catchers in the majors for the first four months, before going into a tailspin that caused him to finish the season with a .244 batting average, 20 home runs and a .712 OPS. Backup catcher Matt Thaiss hit .204 with a .622 OPS. The Angels did not use a third catcher for a single inning, which is fairly remarkable.
