3/30/25 Angels will play the hot hand at shortstop until Zach Neto returns. After Kevin Newman starts the first two games at shortstop, Tim Anderson is scheduled to get the next two. Manager Ron Washington says he'll make the decisions on a game-by-game basis.

3/10/25 Versatile Kevin Newman provides Angels with depth to cover for injured infielders. This time last year, Kevin Newman was fighting for a spot in the majors, and it wasn't going well. Newman was actually released by the Arizona Diamondbacks just before Opening Day. What happened after that is the reason that Newman's situation has changed so much, 12 months later. Newman re-signed with the Diamondbacks on a minor-league deal, played briefly at Triple-A, and then became the everyday shortstop in the majors when Geraldo Perdomo was hurt in the first week of April.

2/17/25 Most overpaid and underpaid players on Angels roster. The Angels are a big market team who have operated below fans' standards the past few years. Despite rostering high-priced players, they have long not rounded out the roster well-enough for year-in year-out contention. The Angels have the 11th-highest payroll among Major League Baseball teams going into the 2025 season. Kevin Newman had a fantastic 2024 season.

12/19/24 Angels Linked to Projected $14 Million All-Star Infielder Cut by AL West Rival. The Los Angeles Angels have acquired a couple of utility players this offseason in Kevin Newman and Scott Kingery, but are still looking to add one more infielder before spring training. There are a few in-house options like Luis Rengifo — who can play either second base or third base — but the need for another infielder is to relegate Anthony Rendon to a backup position. Whoever the Angels sign will be short term because of last year's first-round pick Christian Moore waiting in the wings.

12/16/24 Diamondbacks Make Trio of Minor League Signings. It's been a quiet off-season thus far for the Arizona Diamondbacks. Though they have yet to add an impact player to their major league roster, they did make three minor league signings so far this month. They might not seem like the type of players who can help fill the significant holes in their roster, however, as was evidenced by the signing of veteran infielder Kevin Newman, even the more unlikely names can become contributors when given the opportunity. Here's who the D-backs have added so far in December: RHP Jeff Brigham Right-handed reliever Jeff Brigham hasn't seen much volume in his career. He's 32 years old, but has only spent five seasons in the major leagues, and has never pitched
