Haniger left in 2023 via free agency but returned in 2024 in a trade with the San Francisco Giants. “Mitch has been a significant part of Mariners history and will be missed,” Mariners President of Baseball Operations Jerry Dipoto said.

3/23/25 Mariners release veteran outfielder. When the Mariners reacquired Mitch Haniger from the Giants last offseason, the hope was that he might return to the form he had in 2021 with the team that helped him blossom into a big leaguer. On Sunday morning, as the Mariners prepared for their penultimate game of the Cactus League schedule, the team announced that it had released the veteran outfielder. “Mitch has been a significant part of Mariners history and will be missed,” Mariners president of baseball operations Jerry Dipoto said in a statement.
