2/26/25 Phillies' J.T. Realmuto has success in his first game challenging pitches: It's 'a different dynamic'. Phillies pitcher Joe Ross unleashed a cutter to Toronto Blue Jays shortstop Bo Bichette that skimmed the bottom of the strike zone. Catcher J.T. Realmuto instantly tapped his head, signaling a challenge to the umpire's call using the automated ball-strike system (ABS) that MLB teams are piloting this spring. Teams begin with two challenges each, and keep them if they are successful. Realmuto, using ABS for the first time in Wednesday's 9-6 win over Toronto, finished the game 2-for-2 on his challenges.

2/17/25 The next Chan Ho Park and Chad Durbin? Phillies think Joe Ross can be that and maybe more. Joe Ross is attempting to join a list of Phillies pitchers that is neither long nor distinguished. Ross' raw stuff says that Phillies fans might be underestimating him when they grumble about Dave Dombrowski's lackluster offseason. It also says that we might be capping his ceiling a little too low when we mention Chad Durbin and Chan Ho Park as those that came before him. Or, maybe we are just forgetting the value Durbin and Park provided after converting to the bullpen full-time in 2008 and 2009, respectively.

12/28/24 Could Phillies Continue Buying Low on Players This Offseason By Signing Former Star?. The theme for the Philadelphia Phillies this winter has been to buy low on players with upside. With their payroll already being high coming into the offseason, that seems to have prevented president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski from being his usual aggressive self when scouring the market. The Phillies are already over the fourth tier of the luxury tax threshold after signing pitcher Joe Ross, so any future signing they make is going to have a harsh penalty when it comes to the amount of money they have to pay.

10/05/24 Could a Reunion with Former Washington Nationals Pitcher Happen in 2025?. The Washington Nationals are going to need some pitching help if they hope to take the next step forward in 2025. With that in mind, a former Nationals pitcher is set to hit the free agent market this winter and could provide the organization with that much-needed depth without breaking the bank, and that's Joe Ross. Ross played for the Milwaukee Brewers this past season, but after they were eliminated by the New York Mets in the NL Wildcard round, he is officially a free agent. The 31-year-old pitched in two of the three playoff games this season for the Brewers and threw 1.2 scoreless innings.
