4/10/25 | NL foe among 3 teams deemed candidates to sign ex-Mets slugger. Former New York Mets slugger J.D. Martinez still has not found a home this season. There's little doubt that Martinez's best days are behind him. It's hard to imagine Martinez will remain unsigned for the entire 2025 season, especially once teams begin suffering injuries to players in the middle of their lineups. 4/09/25 | MLB Network Floats Ex-Red Sox Slugger To Struggling Mariners Lineup. J.D. Martinez transformed the Boston Red Sox offense when he joined the team in 2018, won a World Series title that season and boosted the team for five seasons. MLB Network's Greg Amsinger and Harold Reynolds pointed to where Martinez could sign with the season underway. Amsinger noted the Seattle Mariners are hitting under .200 as a team. The team's failed to support an elite starting rotation even with a few capable bats in Randy Arozarena, Julio Rodriguez and Cal Raleigh. 3/27/25 | Former Chicago Cubs Star, World Champion Still Jobless as 2025 Season Starts. As the 2025 regular season begins (state side) on Thursday, it's surprising to look at major league rosters and not see either of J.D. Martinez or Anthony Rizzo on one. Martinez is a multi-time All-Star and a World Series champion who remains a free agent. Rizzo is in the same boat. The 35-year-old is coming off a down year with the New York Yankees in which he hit .228 with eight homers and 35 RBI, but it's still shocking to see him fail to get a single opportunity. 3/15/25 | Reese Kaplan -- The Mets Have Not Designated Star Hitters to be DH. Believe it or not, the Mets in 2024 finally found aggregate quality at the Designated Hitter position when combining what you received from the primary participants J.D. Martinez and Jesse Winker. While that last number is not good, the 19 HRs and 82 RBIs is far better than what the club has received in the past. Well, in 2023 the club used primarily Daniel Vogelbach and someone named Mark Vientos (yes, that Mark Vientos) to combine for 22 HRs (good), 70 RBIs (not so good) and about a .222 batting average (worse than what the team got in 2024). 3/12/25 | Mets predicted to lose $12 million 6x All-Star to Reds. The New York Mets had a busy offseason. Last year, they won 89 games, clinched a Wild Card spot and advanced all the way to the National League Championship Series. Designated hitter J.D. Martinez remains a free agent, and there isn't a spot for him with the Mets any longer. Zachary D. Rymer of Bleacher Report predicted that the veteran slugger would end up signing with the Cincinnati Reds. Source: https://www.sportingnews.com/us/mlb/new-york-mets/... |
3/05/25 | Yankees Linked To Cardinals In Trade Scenario That Could Avert World Series Hangover. The St. Louis Cardinals haven't made any significant moves this winter to upgrade their big-league roster and remain stagnant in the trade market. Cardinals president of baseball operations John Mozeliak made it sound as if several stars would be dealt this winter following his announcement of an organizational reset last fall. Whether a deal happens now or at this summer's trade deadline, perhaps the New York Yankees could soon complete a blockbuster with the Cardinals that'll be dually advantageous for both clubs. "The other course the Yankees could take involves either signing J.D. Martinez, who is reportedly on their radar, or trading for Nolan Arenado, who they tried to get in December," Bleacher Report's Zachary D. Rymer wrote Wednesday as he explained how New York can avoid a World Series hangover after losing to the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2024. Source: https://www.si.com/mlb/cardinals/st-louis-cardinal... |
3/04/25 | Former Dodgers All-Star Predicted to Sign With Yankees. Former Los Angeles Dodgers All-Star J.D. Martinez is still unemployed. Martinez spent the 2023 season with the Dodgers after signing a one-year, $10 million deal. While Martinez is searching for a job ahead of Opening Day, one baseball insider thinks he could end up staying in New York, but with the Yankees. 2/18/25 | Mets predicted to lose $10 million 6x All-Star to Reds. The New York Mets made a surprising run to the National League Championship Series last October after winning the third National League Wild Card. As spring training gets underway, J.D. Martinez remains a free agent, and Zachary D. Rymer of Bleacher Report predicts he'll sign with the Cincinnati Reds. Source: https://www.sportingnews.com/us/mlb/new-york-mets/... |
2/14/25 | 3 moves Padres must make to round out 2025 roster. The San Diego Padres have made some notable moves this offseason. While they've added pieces to bolster their roster, a few key gaps remain, particularly in the rotation, lineup depth, and bullpen. To maximize their chances of competing for a deep postseason run, the Padres need to make three critical moves. The Padres need more power in their lineup, and J.D. Martinez is the perfect fit. 2/10/25 | Mets predicted to lose $12 million six-time All-Star to Rays. The New York Mets have been one of Major League Baseball's busiest teams this offseason. One player in particular that has likely played his last game with the Mets is six-time All-Star and slugger J.D. Martinez. Tim Kelly of Bleacher Report predicts that the veteran will ultimately leave for the Tampa Bay Rays. Source: https://www.sportingnews.com/us/mlb/new-york-mets/... |
2/08/25 | Padres Predicted to Sign Former Dodgers All-Star to $5 Million Deal. J.D. Martinez is hoping to find another team to play for this winter. Martinez had a stellar performance in 2023 with the Los Angeles Dodgers, but went cold down the stretch in 2024 with the New York Mets. Just Baseball's Ryan Finkelstein believes Martinez would be a good fit with the San Diego Padres. Source: https://www.si.com/mlb/padres/san-diego-padres-new... |
2/07/25 | Unwanted ex-Mets slugger frustrated with free agency: Teams 'don't want' us. Former Mets DH J.D. Martinez is frustrated. While the three-time Silver Slugger has already lined up a backup plan — he signed a deal with a pickleball brand this week — he still wants to play baseball. The problem is, spring training starts next week and he still doesn't have a team. On Thursday, Martinez was a guest on “The Show,” a podcast hosted by New York Post veteran writers Joel Sherman and Jon Heyman. Source: https://www.nj.com/mets/2025/02/unwanted-ex-mets-s... |

2/01/25 | Mets Free Agent J.D. Martinez Still Looking to Sign With a Team. Free agent slugger J.D. Martinez did not put up his usual power numbers during his age-36 season with the New York Mets. New York Post columnist Jon Heyman reported Thursday that Martinez plans to play in 2025. The primary designated hitter found himself in a similar position around this time last year, remaining a free agent until late March, despite posting an .893 OPS during an All-Star campaign with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2023. Martinez, 37, did not make his regular-season debut until late April due to missing spring training and battling back soreness. Source: https://www.si.com/mlb/mets/news/mets-free-agent-j... |
1/31/25 | Former Dodgers All-Star Still Looking to Play in 2025. Former Los Angeles Dodgers All-Star J.D. Martinez is hoping to play next season, per MLB insider Jon Heyman. "J.D. Martinez, a big influence in the Mets' winning clubhouse, is aiming to play in 2025," Heyman wrote. Ahead of the 2024 season, Martinez signed a one-year, $12 million deal with the New York Mets. 1/24/25 | Padres predicted to sign $5 million six-time All-Star. The San Diego Padres have been awfully quiet this offseason, having not made any major roster moves of any kind. The Dodgers have obviously been active, and so too have the Arizona Diamondbacks and San Francisco Giants. Ryan Finkelstein of Just Baseball predicts that they will ultimately sign designated hitter J.D. Martinez to a one-year, $5 million contract with incentives. 1/18/25 | Padres Predicted to Sign Former Dodgers, Red Sox All-Star in Blockbuster Move. Six-time All-Star free agent J.D. Martinez is still on the table in free agency. The 37-year-old has underperformed in recent seasons, especially toward the end of the 2024 season with the New York Mets. From Aug. 4 to the end of the season, Martinez hit .166 with four home runs. As a designated hitter, that is not good enough. Source: https://www.si.com/mlb/padres/san-diego-padres-new... |
1/09/25 | Mets Free Agent J.D. Martinez Called a Fit For NL Foe. After a one-year stint with the New York Mets last season as their designated hitter, this NL West team is viewed as a fit for J.D. Martinez. ESPN's David Schoenfield named the Arizona Diamondbacks as a potential fit for Martinez after Joc Pederson, their starting DH last season, signed with the Texas Rangers back in December on a two-year deal.
