4/21/25 Houston Astros Skipper Thrilled With This One Aspect of Struggling Offense. Scoring runs has been a struggle for the Houston Astros in the early going of the 2025 MLB regular season. A team slash line of .222/.299/.331 has been recorded, which ranks 25th, 23rd and 27th in the league, respectively. Left fielder Jose Altuve, third baseman Isaac Paredes, center fielder Jake Meyers and right fielder Cam Smith are the only four positional players, out of 13 to make an appearance this season, who have OPS+ numbers in the triple digits. Manufacturing runs consistently has been a real issue for the team, scoring three or fewer in 15 out of 21 contests.

4/09/25 Astros GM keeps it real on Jose Altuve's left field transition. The Houston Astros switched things up this season after moving Jose Altuve off of second base and into the outfield. Despite that, there is some optimism coming out of Houston. The Astros general manager Dana Brown recently opened up about Altuve playing left field. During an interview on “MLB Now” Brown claims that Altuve's “transition is going well.” Overall, the Astros seem to like how the nine-time All-Star is developing as a left fielder and seem to believe he will only improve as the season progresses.

4/05/25 Four Outfielders Astros Could Trade for To Save Struggling Group. The Houston Astros entered the season with one glaring weakness and it has only started to get more alarming as the season goes on: the outfield. It was clear that the Astros knew that they needed more help in the outfield, as they have pulled off some crazy moves already this season. Future Hall of Fame second baseman Jose Altuve moved into the outfield for the first time. Top prospect Cam Smith also moved from third base to the outfield, his bigger struggles have been at the plate.

3/30/25 Bold Prediction Sees Astros All-Star Slugger Lead AL in This Surprising Stat. The Houston Astros have produced an absurd amount of top-end offensive talent in the past decade-plus. From Jose Altuve to George Springer to Kyle Tucker to Carlos Correa and Alex Bregman, the team's borderline dynastic run has been powered by league-best hitting in addition to the organization's knack for identifying and developing elite pitching.

3/27/25 Astros' Jose Altuve off to adventurous start in left field vs. Mets. MLB Astros' Jose Altuve off to adventurous start in left field vs. Mets By Dan Martin Published March 27, 2025, 5:12 p.m. ET HOUSTON — Jose Altuve's first play in the outfield as a professional baseball player was eventful. With two outs and two on in the top of the first against the Mets on Thursday, Brandon Nimmo lofted a fly ball to left-center field, where center fielder Jake Meyers seemed to have a read on it. But Altuve, who played 1,765 games for the Astros before switching to left this year , raced over and cut off Meyers to make the catch to end the inning — much to the delight of the sellout crowd at Daikin Park. 0% chance Jose Altuve was letting Jake Meyers catch this & not him ??

3/27/25 Astros' next second baseman after Jose Altuve still has uncertainty. With the Houston Astros set on moving Jose Altuve to a position he's never played after being a second baseman his entire career, it's led to some uncertainty on who will take his spot. Altuve is supposed to start Opening Day in left field against the New York Mets, which will be the first time in his 14-year career where he's played in the outfield. The move has led Joe Espada to find who will be the starter at second baseman, and though he has an answer, that answer might not be the long-term solution.

3/26/25 AL West Preview: Will new-look Astros finally be dethroned?. The Houston Astros will certainly look different when trying to continue their impressive run of AL West titles, after letting two of their best hitters go and with Jose Altuve likely moving to left field. This could be the season that another team finally overtakes the Astros as division champs. Seattle has dynamic young center fielder Julio Rodríguez while seeking five consecutive winning seasons for the first time in franchise history. The Athletics are no longer in Oakland and suddenly did some offseason spending, while the Los Angeles Angels are coming off a franchise-record 99 losses with Mike Trout finally healthy again but surrounded by a lot of young players.

3/17/25 Houston Astros Star Prospect Making Convincing Case for Opening Day Roster Spot. There has been a lot of focus on the Houston Astros spring training camp following some of the major changes this winter. The transition of Jose Altuve from All-Star second baseman to left fielder has been a major topic of discussion. As long as Altuve's bat is in the lineup and he continues producing, the Astros will live with some of the shortcomings defensively, especially if someone capable emerges as an everyday option to replace him at the keystone. Another player grabbing headlines during camp has been star prospect Cam Smith.
