4/19/25 Ageless Carlos Santana keeps playing, playing and playing: Guardians takeaways. When the Guardians first traded for Carlos Santana in July 2008 from the Dodgers, he was a prized catching prospect. Santana has been around the diamond and around the game for a long time. Santana's 2,100 games are the second most in the big leagues among active players. McCutchen is 38, while Santana turned 39 on April 8.

4/09/25 Santana homers and Guardians hold on for 3-2 win over White Sox in unusual finish. Carlos Santana homered and the Cleveland Guardians held off the Chicago White Sox 3-2 on Wednesday night in a game that ended on a bizarre play. The White Sox had the bases loaded with two outs in the ninth inning when Miguel Vargas singled through the hole at shortstop. Jacob Amaya scored and it seemed Mike Tauchman was going to tie the game before he appeared to injure himself while rounding third base.

4/09/25 Carlos Santana trades birthday slaps for a pair of hits in home opener win: Guardians breakfast today. Carlos Santana celebrated his 39th birthday with a pair of base hits, crossing the plate to score the winning run on a bases-loaded walk by Nolan Jones in the bottom of the ninth Tuesday as the Guardians nipped the White Sox, 1-0, at Progressive Field. The milestone day for Santana included reaching 1,800 hits in the big leagues, becoming the seventh active player to reach the mark and just the 48th switch-hitter with at least that many hits all-time. Santana also took his lumps from fellow Dominican slugger José Ramírez, who grinned as he told reporters prior to the game that the only birthday gift he gave his teammate was “two smacks in the face” as the two kicked back near their adjacent lockers in the Guardians' newly-renovated clubhouse.

3/22/25 Guardians launch four home runs, hang on for 12-8 spring training win against San Diego. Carlos Santana finally joined the home run parade Saturday and the Guardians added to their Cactus League-leading total with four homers in a 12-8 spring training win against San Diego at Goodyear Ballpark. The Padres scored four times in the ninth, but Andrew Misiaszek struck out a pair with the bases loaded to stop the rally.

3/13/25 One Man’s Trash: Josh Carlos Santana Bell.

Ahhh, brings back memories, as this song hit right in my prime. Yes, I’m an old f’er, which segues perfectly…not Son Segwaying over to Grey’s neck of the woods in Los Angeles….Although, that would be fun, but the over/under on me getting splattered all over the concrete is 1 mile. Please, blog, may I have some more?

2/18/25 Carlos Santana Reveals Unique Reason Why Guardians Return is 'Special'. Carlos Santana is now in his third stint with the Cleveland Guardians, as the Guardians signed the first baseman to a one-year deal in MLB free agency. Santana broke into the majors with Cleveland back in 2010 and spent the first eight seasons of his career with the franchise before taking a one-year detour with the Philadelphia Phillies in 2018. Not only will playing at Progressive Field be a great experience for Santana because of his history with the Guardians, but it will also be fun for another reason.

1/17/25 Twins poised to replace Santana with 4-time Gold Glover at first base?. The Minnesota Twins have a gaping hole at first base after Carlos Santana returned to Cleveland, could the team turn to a three-time All-Star to man the position? The 35-year-old who played the last four seasons with the New York Yankees would bring championship experience with him after winning the World Series with the Chicago Cubs in 2016 and the American League pennant with the Yankees last season.

1/13/25 Guardians' top 4 bargain bin free agent targets. The Cleveland Guardians have not added many free agents this offseason but that does not mean they can't shop in the bargain bin. After making the ALCS last year, they don't have far to go to compete in the American League again. While they added Carlos Santana to play first base, there are more holes to fill. Jorge Polanco, Kyle Gibson, Jon Berti, and Jose Quintana should be on the Guardians' radar this offseason.

1/07/25 Guardians Linked to Former All-Star Slugger in MLB Free Agency. The Cleveland Guardians have yet to make any improvements to their offense in MLB free agency, an they are running out of time. The Guardians did sign first baseman Carlos Santana, but that was only as a replacement for Josh Naylor, who was traded to the Seattle Mariners. Going from Naylor to Santana is a horizontal move at best and a downgrade at worst, so it would strongly behoove Cleveland to add another slugger.

1/04/25 Baseball America Declares Most Pressing Need For Seattle Mariners. The Seattle Mariners' offseason plans were dealt another big blow on Jan. 3 when Hye-seong Kim declined an offer from the team in favor of one from the Los Angeles Dodgers. Removing all rumors and speculation, that makes Kim the second player the Mariners were confirmed to extend a contract offer to who chose to sign elsewhere. The other was first baseman Carlos Santana, who turned down a longer contract and more money from Seattle in favor for a third career stint with the Cleveland Guardians. The Mariners, in their pursuit of Santana and Kim (and self-inflicted payroll restraints), have lost out on solutions at first and second base like Josh Naylor, Paul Goldschmidt, Christian Walker and Gleyber Torres.

1/03/25 Twins tabbed to pull off surprising swap to fill 1st base need. The Minnesota Twins lost first-time Gold Glove first baseman Carlos Santana to free agency but could be eyeing up a deal to fill that role via trade this winter. Minnesota is up for sale, which seriously hampers the team's ability to add payroll via a big free-agent signing to satisfy the team's need for a new first baseman. The Twins are currently projected to roll with a first-base platoon of Jose Miranda and Edouard Julien.

12/30/24 Former Seattle Mariners Pitcher to Play For Chinese Professional Baseball League. The Seattle Mariners are still looking to make their first big move of the offseason despite having pressing needs at first, second and third base. First baseman Carlos Santana returned to the Cleveland Guardians the week before Christmas. Just several days ago, outfielder Teoscar Hernandez opted to re-sign with the defending World Series champions, the Los Angeles Dodgers, on a three-year deal. Per a report from Francys Romero, left-handed pitcher Roenis Elias signed a one-year, $500,000 deal to play with the Fubon Guardians of the Chinese Professional Baseball League.

12/26/24 Carlos Santana returns to Cleveland on 1-year deal, first baseman's third stint with Guardians (copy). Even after leaving Cleveland, Carlos Santana remained a fan favorite and was warmly welcomed back as a visitor. Santana signed a one-year, $12 million contract and returned Monday for his third stint with the Guardians, who have an opening at first base after the AL Central champions traded Josh Naylor to Arizona on Saturday. Santana can earn an additional $1.2 million in bonuses for plate appearances: $200,000 for 500 and each additional 25 through 650. The 38-year-old Santana spent last season with Minnesota, batting .238 with 23 homers and 71 RBIs in 150 games.

12/24/24 Mets talked to first baseman before he signed with AL team. Carlos Santana will return to familiar ground after signing with the Cleveland Guardians, but many teams were reportedly interested in the free agent first baseman. According to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, the New York Yankees, New York Mets, Seattle Mariners, Detroit Tigers and Arizona Diamondbacks “were in the mix” for the first baseman.

12/17/24 Mariners in the hunt for a 1st-time Gold Glove winner this winter. The Seattle Mariners need to improve the offensive production from its infield. The team has been exploring free agent and trade scenarios to make it happen, hoping to return to the Major League Baseball postseason in 2025. Seattle has been keeping its options open for a relatively inexpensive prospective upgrade at first base. The Mariners have reportedly been in contact with first baseman Carlos Santana and Leo Morgenstern of Just Baseball tabs the team as a prime landing spot for the 38-year-old.

12/15/24 Seattle Mariners Now Facing Competition in Battle to Sign Veteran Carlos Santana. We heard this past week from Ryan Divish of the Seattle Times that the Seattle Mariners were hoping to have a deal with veteran first baseman Carlos Santana wrapped up within a week. However, the M's now face increased competition on the Santana front in the form of the Minnesota Twins, who would like to bring him back as well. Bobby Nightengale of the Minnesota Star-Tribune wrote about the Twins interest this week: The Twins have interest in a reunion with Carlos Santana, who won a Gold Glove last year. 12/14/24 Do the Twins actually have interest in re-signing Carlos Santana?. Carlos Santana is a free agent and while there's a report that indicates the Minnesota Twins are interested in bringing him back in 2025, the words that came out of Chief Baseball Officer Derek Falvey's mouth this past week might suggest otherwise. According to Bobby Nightengale of the Star Tribune, the Twins want to add a first baseman and a right-handed hitting outfield, and two names that fit those needs are Santana and former Orioles and Phillies outfielder Austin Hays.
