4/09/25 Angels Linked to All-Star, World Series Champion Reliever in Blockbuster Free Agent Move. The Los Angeles Angels are off to a hot start in 2025 as they are already looking to improve upon last year's abysmal 99-loss campaign. The productive play from the Halos has led MLB insider Kerry Miller to link a big-name reliever to Anaheim. David Robertson is an All-Star closer who spent seven years as a member of the New York Yankees to begin his baseball life in 2008 and even helped hoist a 2009 World Series trophy with the team.

3/24/25 Former New York Yankees All-Star with Nearly 180 Career Saves Surprisingly Still a Free Agent. With Opening Day just days away, former All-Star closer David Robertson is surprisingly still without a team. The 39-year-old reliever had a $7 million mutual option with the Texas Rangers after 2024 and he did not exercise it, likely thinking a better payday awaited him. Robertson went 3-4 last season with a 3.00 ERA as the Rangers failed to replicate their World Series season from 2023.

3/07/25 Should the New York Mets bring in another veteran reliever?. Opening Day is just 20 days away and there are still some proven relief arms remaining on the free agent market who could fit with the New York Mets. The first two names that come to mind are familiar faces in David Robertson and Brooks Raley. This duo actually pitched in the same Mets bullpen back in 2023 before Robertson was traded to the NL East rival Miami Marlins at the trade deadline that summer. The third name on this list has an impressive track record and has pitched in about every big market besides New York and that would be Craig Kimbrel.

3/04/25 Former Texas Rangers Reliever Still Unsigned Despite Numerous Potential Suitors. When the Texas Rangers signed David Robertson to a one-year, $11.5-million contract with a mutual option for 2025 prior to last season, they knew they were adding a solid veteran presence to their bullpen. Robertson delivered that stability and more, proving very effective as he gave Texas a 3.00 ERA over 68 appearances and 72 innings pitched in his age 39 season. The 2009 World Series champion as a member of the New York Yankees even retained his strikeout prowess, fanning 99 batters and remarkably falling just one short of his career high in that regard. Nick Deeds of MLB Trade Rumors broke down the possible landing spots for Robertson, and it should come as no surprise that the most recent of the eight teams he played for might still be an option.

2/11/25 MLB Reporter Attaches Ex-Yankees All-Star Pitcher To Red Sox. Spring training is upon us, but there still are a lot of very talented MLB players out there who are looking for new contracts. The current landscape of the league's open market was emphasized in a column put together by The Athletic's Chad Jennings last week. Jennings went through all 30 clubs and determined a logical free-agency fit, many of whom have at least one All-Star nod on their respective résumés. One of those veterans was reliever David Robertson, who Jennings believes makes sense for the Boston Red Sox.

2/06/25 [Newsweek] - David Robertson Predicted To Sign Projected $7 Million Deal With Rangers. The Texas Rangers will need to prioritize re-signing reliever David Robertson after Kirby Yates bolted for the Los Angeles Dodgers.

2/03/25 Chicago Cubs' improved bullpen on display in latest NL Central Power Rankings. There will probably be more turnover in this category than all others combined before the start of the season, which could change these rankings. In particular, a David Robertson or Kenly Jansen addition to any of these teams could substantially improve their outlook. The Brewers got used to life without Devin Williams finishing games in 2024- they were good last year without him and have a lot of the pieces back.

2/02/25 Braves Projected to Add Former Yankees All-Star. If the Atlanta Braves only make one more signing this offseason, adding a starting pitcher makes the most sense. On Jan. 31, Just Baseball's Ryan Finkelstein actually predicted the Braves to add both a starting pitcher and reliever. For the bullpen, Finkelstein projected Atlanta to sign former New York Yankees All-Star right-hander David Robertson.

1/14/25 Beloved Ex-Yankees Reliever Called Best Free Agency Fit For Boston Red Sox. Ever since the start of 2025, several people within the baseball community have tabbed free agent and former New York Yankees reliever David Robertson as potentially returning to the Bronx this winter. In a January 1 article, Mike Puma of the New York Post wrote, "The right-hander has succeeded in New York with both the Yankees and Mets, and his crossover ability in handling righties and lefties is appealing." Bleacher Report's Zachary D. Rymer echoed this by calling New York Robertson's "best fit" in free agency during a January 10 article.

1/11/25 Yankees Tabbed 'Best Fit' for Reliable Free Agent Reliever. In a January 1 article, Mike Puma of the New York Post asserted that longtime New York Yankees reliever David Robertson could be available to return for a third Yankees tenure in free agency this offseason. "Robertson, who turns 40 in April, pitched to a 3.00 ERA in 60 appearances last season with the Rangers," Puma wrote. "The right-hander has succeeded in New York with both the Yankees and Mets, and his crossover ability in handling righties and lefties is appealing."

11/02/24 Rangers' reliever Robertson declines option. ARLINGTON, Texas -- - Reliever David Robertson declined his $7 million mutual option with the Texas Rangers on Saturday, triggering a $1.5 million buyout and becoming a free agent. Robertson agreed in January to a one-year contract that included a $10 million salary, of which $5 million was deferred without interest. A 16-year big league veteran, he is 66-46 with a 2.91 ERA and 177 saves for the New York Yankees (2008-14 and 2017-18), Chicago White Sox (2015-17), Philadelphia (2019), Tampa Bay (2021), Chicago Cubs (2022), Philadelphia (2022), New York Mets (2023), Miami (2023) and Texas.

9/30/24 Rangers go out with a bang vs. Angels despite season filled with whimpers. With the final pitch thrown on the mound by David Robertson at The Big A in Anaheim, the Texas Rangers' 2024 season has come to a close. The Rangers, coming off a World Series championship in 2023, finished this year far short of expectations, recording a losing season at 78-84 and coming in third place in the American League West. Specific analysis of the Rangers' lackluster season will come over the next few months, but this series was a great representation of what the Rangers could have been and what the Angels have spent the last 15 years being.

9/14/24 Rodríguez hits 3-run homer in 8th, Mariners beat Rangers 5-4 to spoil deGrom's return. Julio Rodríguez hit a three-run home run in the eighth inning to help spoil Jacob deGrom’s return to the mound and send the Seattle Mariners to a 5-4 victory over the Texas Rangers on Friday night. Back after undergoing Tommy John surgery in April 2023, DeGrom left after 3 2/3 innings with a 2-0 lead and the Rangers had a 4-0 advantage. Rodríguez began Seattle’s rally with a double in the seventh that set up two runs. Then in the eighth, he hit his 15th homer of the season to deep left field with two outs off David Robertson (3-4). JT Chargois (3-1) struck out three in the eighth for the victory, and Andrés Muñoz finished for his 21st save.

8/19/24 Gerson Garabito, Texas Rangers Are The Only Team To Pull This Off Since 2021. The Texas Rangers' postseason hopes may be closing, but there are still plenty of games remaining to find reason for hope going into 2025. Players such as infielder Josh Smith and relievers David Robertson and Kirby Yates have put together excellent seasons. The progress of starting pitchers Tyler Mahle and Jacob deGrom deep into September will be meaningful for next season. Another bright spot is reliever Gerson Garabito.

7/30/24 Texas Rangers trade updates: Latest news, updates from MLB trade deadline. It was a crazy 24 hours of the day before the trading deadline for the Texas Rangers. Be the smartest Rangers fan. “I honestly don't know how to answer that one,” reliever David Robertson, thrice traded at the deadline, said Monday after escaping a bases-loaded, no-outs seventh inning jam in the Rangers' 6-3 win over St. Louis.

7/01/24 Mets Could Stun at Trade Deadline by Landing Highly Sought After Target. Last year, the New York Mets did a favor for an NL East rival at the trade deadline. This summer, a former trade partner could return said favor. In 2023, the Mets dealt closer David Robertson to the Miami Marlins in exchange for a pair of young prospects in shortstop Marco Vargas and catcher Ronald Hernandez. At the time, the Marlins were in a similar spot as the present day Mets being NL Wild Card contenders.

6/14/24 For Texas Rangers' David Robertson, slaying LA's nightmare lineup was all in a day's work. With no disrespect intended, David Robertson on Thursday afternoon shrugged off any notion that striking out Mookie Betts, Shohei Ohtani and Freddie Freeman in succession the night before represented anything historic. No matter how good they are, somebody was eventually going to do it, he said.

3/21/24 David Robertson preparing for World Series repeat ahead of Rangers debut. David Robertson is new to the World Champion Texas Rangers. The veteran relief pitcher is thrilled to be plying his trade with a team that made its mark in the postseason a year ago, and he is intent on helping the Rangers have another successful season that includes another World Series effort. Robertson has been pitching in the big leagues since the 2008 season when he broke in with the New York Yankees.
