4/25/25 Exacting Nathan Eovaldi mixes his pitches, stifles Giants in low-scoring Texas Rangers win. Some things change: The Rangers beat Justin Verlander for the first time in seven years and Joc Pederson picked up his first RBI. In a 2-0 win over San Francisco on Friday, Eovaldi was just like a smart investor.

4/25/25 Legends on the mound, in the dugout as Giants host Rangers. Two of Major League Baseball's active legends will occupy opposing dugouts Friday night when Bruce Bochy and the Texas Rangers visit Justin Verlander and the San Francisco Giants in the opener of a three-game interleague series. Bochy, who led the Giants to World Series championships in 2010, 2012 and 2014, will be making his second return to San Francisco since winning 1,052 regular-season games as their manager for 13 seasons.

4/20/25 Angels' Mike Trout sizes up Giants' Justin Verlander in finale. One of the greatest rivalries in 21st-century baseball continues on Sunday when Justin Verlander and the San Francisco Giants close out a three-game road series against Mike Trout and the Los Angeles Angels in Anaheim, Calif. The teams have split the first two games of the set, each winning a pitchers' duel. One day after the Angels got a combined shutout from Tyler Anderson and three relievers, the Giants overcame two home runs by Trout with a combined six-hit effort of Landen Roupp and two teammates. Trout's homers, both solo shots, were his seventh and eighth of the season.

4/18/25 Phillies Notebook: Friday matchup latest Cy Young foe for Phillies. The Phillies season is only 20 games old, but it feels like they've already had their fair share of hype-worthy affairs. An early-April visit from the reigning World Series champion Dodgers followed by a voyage to Atlanta will tend to do that. The 2022 season was the same one in which Justin Verlander won the honor in the American League, as a member of the Houston Astros.

4/15/25 What we learned as Verlander, Giants suffer windy loss to Phillies. Justin Verlander makes no secret of the fact that he wants to join the 300-win club at some point. Right now, the Giants pitcher is having more trouble than he expected in his bid for his first in orange and black. The Philadelphia Phillies put four runs on Verlander's line, knocking him out with a string of singles in the sixth, when Verlander extended his pitch count. The Phillies' lead was three heading into the top of the eighth, but the Giants pushed back.

4/14/25 Astros Have Plenty of Reasons To Tune In Despite Offseason Loss of Star Power. The 2024 season marked the end of an era for the Houston Astros. After being swept, it was the last time that several of the key contributors from their most recent World Series victory in 2022 would take the field together. Starting pitcher Justin Verlander departed in free agency, signing with the San Francisco Giants. Third baseman Alex Bregman also decided to leave, agreeing to a deal with the Boston Red Sox.

4/06/25 Giants' bullpen shows its worth in three-game series sweep of Mariners. Most of the talk surrounding the Giants this season has been about the addition of ace pitcher Justin Verlander and an offense that has shown a certain panache for coming through in the clutch. It's certainly fair to say the bullpen has been equally responsible, if not more so, for San Francisco's best start to a season in more than two decades. Take the three-game weekend series against the Seattle Mariners for example. Giants relievers had to shoulder a heavy load against the Mariners, especially considering Verlander left Friday's game after recording just seven outs.

4/04/25 Justin Verlander done after 2 1/3 innings in his home debut for San Francisco Giants against Seattle. Justin Verlander pitched a forgettable home debut for the San Francisco Giants. The 42-year-old right-hander, who signed a $15 million, one-year contract in January, was done after just 2 1/3 innings Friday against the Seattle Mariners in the Giants' 2025 opener at Oracle Park. Verlander retired only seven batters.

4/03/25 Justin Verlander chases 263rd win in Giants' home opener vs. Mariners. Justin Verlander hopes to build upon an encouraging debut for the San Francisco Giants when he gets the ball in the home opener against the visiting Seattle Mariners on Friday afternoon. After signing a one-year deal with San Francisco over the winter, Verlander (0-0, 3.60 ERA) has been the only Giant to start a loss so far this season when he took a no-decision in a 3-2 defeat Saturday at Cincinnati. The 42-year-old, who suffered through an injury-plagued 2024 season while compiling a 5.48 ERA for the Houston Astros, was comforted by having allowed the Reds only two runs and six hits in five pain-free innings. Verlander's quest for 300 career wins -- he stands 38 away -- continues against the Mariners, one of his favorite victims.

3/31/25 Astros Figuring Out Greatest Unknown Could Be Key to Successful Season. The Houston Astros made several highly publicized moves during the MLB offseason. Franchise cornerstones were on the move with future Hall of Famer Justin Verlander and third baseman Alex Bregman both leaving in free agency, agreeing to deals with the San Francisco Giants and Boston Red Sox. Two trades were made with the Chicago Cubs that garnered a lot of attention. Right fielder Kyle Tucker was moved in arguably the biggest blockbuster of the winter, and a few weeks later, veteran relief pitcher Ryan Pressly was also dealt.

3/29/25 Verlander's SF Giants debut spoiled by first loss of season. Justin Verlander would be a first-ballot Hall of Famer if he retired tomorrow. It's improbable, without doubt; Verlander is 42-years-old, the oldest active player in baseball, and stands 38 wins away. After being saddled with the no-decision, unable to protect a two-run lead as the Giants (1-1) lost to the Cincinnati Reds, 3-2, he'll have to wait until the home opener to inch closer to history. “Ultimately, my guys gave me a two-run lead and I would have liked to have been able to hold that,” said Verlander, the oldest pitcher to appear in a game for the Giants since 46-year-old Randy Johnson in 2009.

3/26/25 Heading to Daikin Park for the Astros' Opening Day? Here's what you should know before you go. After finishing Spring Training, the Houston Astros will take the field for the first time on March 27 for the first leg of a three-game series against the New York Mets to get the 2025 campaign started. The Astros will be hosting the Mets in an AL-vs.-NL matchup between two teams that look pretty different since last fall. The team said goodbye to franchise legends Justin Verlander, Kyle Tucker and Alex Bregman.
