4/10/25 Strike 3: Assessing expectations for the Colorado Rockies rookies. Strike 3: Starting the season 1-7 can make you rethink your approach if you're running a Major League Baseball team. For the Colorado Rockies, who would have vastly preferred to leave prized prospects like Chase Dollander and Zac Veen down on the farm for a bit of extra seasoning, they didn't have a lot of choice. April call ups might not have been in the original idea, but they became the plan sooner than expected, and now, it appears that's the direction the team has to go. Dollander made a successful if not spectacular big league debut, pitching five innings and earning the win in his first Rockies appearance.

4/06/25 What You’ve Veen Waiting For.

Rockies are eligible for an extra draft pick if Zac Veen or Chase Dollander (more on him in a second) finish top three in the end-of-the-year awards, because they were called up within two weeks of Opening Day. So, the Rockies could manipulate their service time and still get rewarded with picks. Please, blog, may I have some more?

3/25/25 Colorado Rockies roster moves aren't fun but they are wise. The Colorado Rockies appear to have put the youth movement on pause. It may not be the most fun news for the fans and media, hoping for an ounce of excitement after years of drudgery, but it is almost certainly the wise thing to do in the long term. Colorado will carry almost exactly the roster I predicted when Spring Training started and the one that makes the most sense from a standard, structural perspective. Perhaps the most surprising thing about this scenario was that those statements were made at all, prompting many to believe that it was inevitable that particularly Chase Dollander and Zac Veen would make the team.

3/21/25 Renck: Rockies work hard? So what. They need results, and rotation is reason they will finish last. The manager throwing batting practice in between filling out lineup cards and meeting the media is a hard worker. The Rockies have been rebuilding since 2019, 161 games under .500 since their last winning season and playoff berth. Fire-breathing Chase Dollander should arrive soon, providing a sliver of hope.

3/20/25 Rockies face tough roster decisions in rotation, outfield and bullpen — and that's a good thing. It's crunch time at the Rockies' gleaming spring training complex at Salt River Fields. Manager Bud Black, general manager Bill Schmidt and a cadre of coaches will meet over the next few days to hammer out the 26-man roster ahead of the season opener at Tampa Bay on March 28. It's a tougher task than usual. That's a good thing because the Rockies have solid depth for the first time in a long time, which requires difficult decisions, especially in the starting rotation, outfield and bullpen. Case in point, Part I: Right-hander Chase Dollander Colorado's No. 1 prospect flashed his talents again Tuesday night, striking out seven over 3 2/3 scoreless innings in a 3-1 victory over the Giants.
