4/09/25 SF Giants shut out in first game with new City Connect jerseys. Despite the mixed opinions, the Giants' original City Connect jerseys became something of a good luck charm. Landen Roupp allowed one earned run over a career-high six innings and Hayden Birdsong followed with three scoreless innings of relief Tuesday night, but San Francisco (8-3) was shut out for a second consecutive night and lost to the Cincinnati Reds, 1-0, dropping its first series of the year in the first game with the new jerseys. To Melvin's point, San Francisco has gotten some its best pitching of the young season over the last two nights.

4/02/25 Giants riding high after Astros sweep, strong start to 2025 season. Landen Roupp flew to Cincinnati last Wednesday with the rest of the Giants and then immediately hopped on a commercial flight after taking part in the usual Opening Day festivities. Then it was off to Houston, where Roupp waited for the team to arrive. As the Giants finished off a series win against the Reds, Roupp found himself with a conundrum. Roupp called pitching coach J.P. Martinez, who found a creative solution.

3/24/25 Landen Roupp, Hayden Birdsong both make SF Giants roster — but only one in the rotation. The Giants' biggest and one of the last remaining questions of the spring got an answer Monday afternoon: Landen Roupp will round out their starting rotation. Roupp beat out fellow young right-hander Hayden Birdsong, who will start the year in the bullpen, and left-hander Kyle Harrison, who was behind the eight ball from the get-go due to illness and was optioned to Triple-A Sacramento last week. Manager Bob Melvin put an end to the three-man competition before the Giants' first of two exhibition games against the Detroit Tigers at Oracle Park.

3/18/25 San Francisco Giants Starting Rotation Shines After Offseason Changes. With just over a week left in spring training, the expectations for the San Francisco Giants' pitching staff are high. In the first installment of spring review for the Giants, we touched on the offense. In this second installment, we will go in depth on the current state of the battle for the opening day starting pitching rotation. Rookie Landen Roupp seemed to have secured it but stumbled in his last outing. Kyle Harrison and Hayden Birdsong are also in the mix, presenting the Giants with a unique opportunity heading into the season.

3/17/25 Competition for Giants' fifth rotation spot heating up. The Giants have less than a week remaining in Arizona, and players got a reminder of that when they walked into the clubhouse on Sunday morning. Just about everyone remaining in the clubhouse is guaranteed of at least playing in the final exhibition games back in the Bay Area, but the Giants still are trying to decide what the initial 26-man roster will look like. The Giants came to camp with three young starters vying for the fifth spot, and all three made their cases over a 72-hour period this weekend. Landen Roupp struck out 13 in an eye-opening start at the minor league facility on Friday.

3/16/25 Roupp's eye-popping outing helps case for Giants rotation spot. After the third inning at the Giants' minor league facility on Friday, bullpen coach Garvin Alston approached right-hander Landen Roupp in the dugout. Against Colorado Rockies minor leaguers, Roupp was so dominant that getting on base wasn't even a reasonable goal. Simply making contact against Roupp was difficult enough. The 26-year-old pitched in a High-A game to get his pitch count up while Jordan Hicks faced the Milwaukee Brewers a few miles away, and in five one-hit innings, Roupp struck out 13.

3/10/25 McCray, Matos continue making bids for SF Giants' fourth outfield spot. The competition for the fifth spot in the Giants' rotation has been a talking point since the first day of camp. Every time Landen Roupp or Hayden Birdsong or Kyle Harrison takes the mound, the narrative stands to shift in some respect. Grant McCray and Luis Matos both furthered their cases to make the Opening Day roster as the Giants beat the Rockies, 8-2, on Monday afternoon at Salt River Fields.

6/30/24 SF Giants DFA pitcher as 40-man roster crunch looms. Under Farhan Zaidi, any spot on the Giants' 40-man roster is a valuable commodity, never vacant for long, so you knew they were feeling the effects of multiple roster crunches with their move before Sunday afternoon's series finale against the Dodgers. In desperate need of innings, they activated Landen Roupp early from his minor-league rehab assignment. In a corresponding move to get him on the active roster, they designated Spencer Howard for assignment, leaving their 40-man roster at 39 — with more openings needed to be created in the coming weeks.
