9/03/24 Wild and reckless White Sox blanked by O's, lose for 109th time. On their way to losing for the 109th time this season en route to becoming the worst team of all time, the White Sox have seemingly demonstrated a hundred ways to get beat. Rookie right-hander Nick Nastrini walked six batters, needing 72 pitches to record five outs, and exited trailing 7-0 in the second inning. In his first start since tossing six innings of one-run ball against the Rangers Thursday, Nastrini threw four pitches to the backstop, two of them in the the dirt and two over catcher Korey Lee's head. As rough as things were for Nastrini, he should have been out of the second inning with one run scored despite walking the bases full, but third baseman Miguel Vargas crashed into left fielder Andrew Benintendi on former Sox Eloy Jimenez' pop-up in short left near the line, allowing three runs to score.

8/29/24 Nick Nastrini pitches six innings of one-run ball, but White Sox (31-104) lose seventh straight. Nick Nastrini was back, and in a good way. Can you stand a positive development for the White Sox, who lost their seventh straight game to fall to 31-104 on Thursday afternoon? In the Sox' 2-1 loss to the Rangers before an announced crowd of 10,420 (tickets sold), Nastrini pitched six innings of one-run ball, allowing three hits and one walk while striking out three in his return from Triple-A Charlotte. The Sox need to build a starting rotation for next season and beyond, and Nastrini hasn't distinguished himself as a candidate since he was acquired from the Dodgers in a trade last season for Lance Lynn and Joe Kelly.

6/10/24 Drew Thorpe is the latest pitching prospect the Chicago White Sox are taking a look at ‘for 2025 and beyond’. SEATTLE — Nick Nastrini and Jonathan Cannon have had opportunities to showcase their talents on the big stage with the Chicago White Sox this season. Tuesday will be Drew Thorpe’s turn. The Sox are expected to call up the right-hander, a key part of the March 13 trade that sent Dylan Cease to the San Diego Padres, to make his major-league debut in the second game of a series against the ...

5/22/24 White Sox' Nick Nastrini shelled for nine runs in 9-2 loss to Jays. Nick Nastrini might be relieved to know he won't get deep-sixed after his disastrous return from Triple-A Charlotte Wednesday. Six was the number of walks that plunged Nastrini's pitching line down to a nine runs allowed in 3 1/3 innings. Nastrini has been troubled by walks in the past, but the half a dozen allowed in a 9-2 loss, coupled with seven hits including Bo Bichette's third homer, was not what the Sox are looking for. “He should feel comfortable enough to know he's a big part of the future,” manager Pedro Grifol said before the game.

5/14/24 Something to build on? Young talent gives something for White Sox to look forward to. There are indeed things about the White Sox that are not cringeworthy, after all. Right-handers Nick Nastrini and Jonathan Cannon made two starts each with mixed results before going back to Triple-A Charlotte – and they should be back this season -- and a minor league system that no longer ranks at the bottom of the major leagues.

4/22/24 White Sox option Nick Nastrini to Charlotte, reinstate John Brebbia from IL. The White Sox optioned right-hander Nick Nastrini to Triple-A Charlotte Monday and reinstated reliever John Brebbia from the 15-day injured list, among five moves made by the team before their four-game series in Minnesota. The Sox also selected the contract of infielder Danny Mendick, who was in the lineup Monday at third base and batting eighth; optioned infielder Lenyn Sosa to Charlotte and designated infielder Zach Remillard for assignment. Nastrini's first start was good, with two runs allowed in five innings against the Royals.

4/17/24 Column: Chicago White Sox rookie starters Nick Nastrini and Jonathan Cannon deserve a shot to stick in rotation. It might be deemed cruel and unusual punishment to promote Nick Nastrini and Jonathan Cannon to the Chicago White Sox during this historical stretch of badness. The two Sox pitching prospects had the misfortune of making their major-league debuts in back-to-back games for a team off to the worst start in franchise history, and whose lineup featured six players batting under .200. Asking ...

4/16/24 Debuts, two: Nick Nastrini, Jonathan Cannon get their chance with White Sox. Nick Nastrini one game, Jonathan Cannon the next. There's a search party going on, a hunt for reasons to watch the White Sox, who at 2-14 are off to their worst start ever. Luis Robert Jr. is hurt, and so is Yoan Moncada, not a rare occurrence with either one. The lineup is filled with 30-somethings such as outfielders Robbie Grossman and Kevin Pillar, who were signed to minor league deals late in spring training; Paul DeJong, signed to an inexpensive $1.75 million one-year deal in the offseason; and catcher Martin Maldonado, who is batting .065 in 10 games.

3/28/24 White Sox rookie Jordan Leasure can't stop smiling. First-time major leaguer Jordan Leasure said his White Sox teammates kept walking up to him at the ballpark to say, “stop smiling.” Indeed it is when you make a major league team for the first time and are getting ready for Opening Day. Leasure, acquired with righty Nick Nastrini last summer in trade that sent Lance Lynn and Joe Kelly to the Dodgers, strung together nine scoreless outings in spring training before giving up two runs in his last one Sunday. “Power stuff, strike thrower, weapons to strike people out,” manager Pedro Grifol said when asked about Leasure, 25.

3/17/24 Nick Nastrini stakes strong claim for spot in White Sox' rotation. Right-hander Nick Nastrini has done nothing this spring to suggest he's not ready to break into the major leagues, and the rebuilding White Sox have an opening after a likely top four of Erick Fedde, Michael Soroka, Garrett Crochet and Chris Flexen. What has he shown you, manager Pedro Grifol? Nastrini pitched out of trouble against the Reds in his previous outing and pitched around a leadoff four-pitch walk and a single in the fourth inning Sunday to complete four innings of scoreless ball.

3/16/24 Sneak peeks? Nastrini, Thorpe getting starts as White Sox rotation candidates. Watch the White Sox on Sunday and Monday for a peek at the future starting rotation. Just how soon Nick Nastrini and Drew Thorpe start taking the ball every fifth day remains to be seen, but with less than two weeks remaining until Opening Day, both of them are in the mix for making the rotation out of camp. Neither has pitched in the major leagues, but both have demonstrated the criteria Grifol laid out Saturday for rotation spots, Nastrini while pitching to a 1.29 ERA over three Cactus League appearances with the Sox and Thorpe making three scoreless appearances with the Padres.
