1/23/25 Red Sox top pitching prospect takes first big step in return from elbow injury. The Boston Red Sox's farm system may be known for their talented position players at the moment, but there are a few arms that should make an impact at the major-league level in the near future. Right-handed starter Luis Perales is one of them. Since debuting with the DSL Red Sox in 2021 at 18, he's moved through the system and reached Double-A Portland last year before tearing his UCL and undergoing Tommy John Surgery. Now, just seven months later, Perales has begun throwing and appears to be recovering well.

1/22/25 This Red Sox Prospect 'Just Missed' Baseball America's Top 100 Rankings. The Boston Red Sox are well represented on Baseball America's top 100 list with four prospects cracking the rankings. A devastating injury to starting pitcher Luis Perales last season probably made the difference in not getting the recognition. “Perales has long been one of the more intriguing arms in Boston's system,” Josh Norris of Baseball America wrote. Perales dazzled with High-A Greenville in 2024 by striking out 46 batters in 26 1/3 innings to earn a promotion to Double-A Portland.

7/17/24 A closer look at the state of the Red Sox' minor league system at the 2024 All-Star break. The prevalence of middle-infield bats gives the Sox depth and flexibility to make moves. Luis Perales (No. 6), a rocket-armed 21-year-old righthander amid a breakout season, had just been promoted to Double A Portland when he tore his ulnar collateral ligament, necessitating Tommy John surgery in June.

6/19/24 Another Red Sox pitching prospect, Angel Bastardo, may need Tommy John surgery. Luis Perales isn't the only noteworthy Red Sox pitching prospect who is now likely to require Tommy John surgery. According to a major league source, 22-year-old righthander Angel Bastardo has a damaged ulnar collateral ligament. As with Perales, surgery is viewed as the likely outcome, though Bastardo will meet with a doctor to make a final determination. Bastardo, ranked the No. 26 prospect in the Red Sox system by Baseball America entering the year, was 0-5 with a 5.36 ERA in 10 starts for Double A Portland before landing on the injured list.

6/18/24 Red Sox top pitching prospect has stellar season derailed by Tommy John surgery. The injury bug has been vicious this season, particularly against the Boston Red Sox. Not even their minor league system can escape the injuries. Top Red Sox pitching prospect, Luis Perales, is headed for Tommy John surgery. The young righty will miss the rest of the 2024 season and he'll be rehabbing for much of 2025. The Sea Dogs were optimistic that his elbow injury wasn't serious, but his MRI revealed the dreaded ulnar collateral ligament damage.

6/02/24 Fast-Rising Red Sox Pitching Prospect Dazzles In Double-A Debut. Making the jump to Double-A Portland isn't always easy, but Boston Red Sox rising pitching prospect Luis Perales made it look seamless. The 21-year-old right-hander made his Double-A debut Sunday against the Altoona Curve after being called up from High-A Greenville last week. Perales dominated over five innings of work, allowing just two hits and one run, which was unearned, to go along with one walk and seven strikeouts. It's clear the Red Sox have managed Perales' workload all season as he has yet to throw more than five innings.

5/23/24 Red Sox pitching prospect Luis Perales continues his rise with promotion to Double A Portland. A Red Sox pitching prospect who is off to a dominant start in 2024 is on the move. According to major league sources, righthander Luis Perales — ranked the No. 9 prospect in the Red Sox system by Baseball America — will head to Double A Portland from High A Greenville. Perales, 21, has been overpowering in High A. In his most recent start Tuesday, Perales struck out 12 in five shutout innings while allowing just one hit and eliciting 25 swings-and-misses — a performance that suggested he was overwhelming Sally League hitters, pointing to the need for a promotion.
