3/07/25 | Could Jordan Lawlar Make Diamondbacks Opening Day Roster After All?. Arizona Diamondbacks top prospect Jordan Lawlar was off and running, turning around second base in the blink of an eye. It's the dynamic combination of Lawlar's ability to drive the baseball and run so fast, along with top-level infield defense, that makes him one of the most intriguing prospects in the game. It's a tiny spring training sample size with some of those at-bats coming against minor league pitching, but it's also a tantalizing taste of what kind of upside he has. Bit by the injury bug once again, Lawlar played in just 23 minor league games last year, and has played just 230 total since being drafted with the sixth overall pick in 2021. 3/05/25 | Who is rising, falling among D-backs' top prospects?. Two 2022 draft picks by the Arizona Diamondbacks are going in opposite directions on the updated MLB Pipeline rankings of top prospects. Druw Jones, who at the end of 2024 was viewed as the second-best player in the D-backs' farm system, has fallen to No. 7. Meanwhile, infielder Demetrio Crisantes has jumped from the No. 13 prospect all the way to second, behind top prospect Jordan Lawlar, who after another string of injuries will have the microscope on him in 2025. 2/18/25 | Nothing has changed for Jordan Lawlar, Diamondbacks GM says. The main question is Lawlar primarily plays the same position as Perdomo and is Arizona's only player ranked in MLB Pipeline's top 100 prospects. But despite being ranked No. 11 overall by MLB pipeline, Lawlar was limited to just 23 games in 2024. Source: https://arizonasports.com/mlb/arizona-diamondbacks... |
2/15/25 | Arizona Diamondbacks Top 100 Prospect Likely to Start Year in Minor Leagues. According to Arizona Diamondbacks general manager Mike Hazen, top prospect Jordan Lawlar is likely to begin his season in the minor leagues. Top prospect and shortstop Jordan Lawlar may be “one of the first people hopefully we call upon,” Hazen said, but starting off in a bench role after the time he missed last year is “probably not what's in his best interest.” Lawlar was just ranked as the No. 2 shortstop prospect in the sport and the No. 13 prospect overall by Baseball America. 2/02/25 | Diamondbacks Have Incentive to Put Jordan Lawlar on Opening Day Roster. Earlier this week I wrote an article projecting the Arizona Diamondbacks opening day roster. In that article I listed Jordan Lawlar among the long shots to make the roster. The basis for this evaluation comes primarily out of comments made by General Manager Mike Hazen, emphasizing the need for Lawlar to play every day and continue to develop his offensive game. A littany of injuries have limited Lawlar to just 282 professional games, with just 232 of them coming in affiliated minor leagues. Source: https://www.si.com/mlb/diamondbacks/arizona-diamon... |
11/13/24 | Diamondbacks GM Mike Hazen Hints Jordan Lawlar Likely to Start 2025 in AAA. Arizona Diamondbacks top rated prospect Jordan Lawlar is currently playing winter ball in the Dominican Republic for Tigres del Licey. Lawlar was first called up to the major leagues for the stretch run in 2023, making his major league debut on September 7, 2023. Prior to that he'd put up an impressive minor league season in his age 20 season. While it was valuable experience, Lawlar clearly needed to go back to Triple-A to continue to his development. 11/05/24 | Jordan Lawlar, 2025 Fantasy Outlook. Almost didn’t write this one. Not because he’s not worthy, but Jordan Lawlar received one of these posts in the past, and, honestly, if I wasn’t so lazy, I’d search through past archives and prolly unearth two or three more Jordan Lawlar fantasy outlook posts. Please, blog, may I have some more? Source: https://razzball.com/jordan-lawlar-2025-fantasy-ou... |
11/03/24 | Arizona Diamondbacks Top 10 Prospects For 2025 Fantasy Baseball. 1. SS Jordan Lawlar | 21 | MLB | 2023
The sixth overall pick in the 2021 draft, Lawlar was on schedule to take over the shortstop spot at some point in 2024 but lost a huge chunk of the season to a thumb surgery. He played well when he played in the minors, slashing .318/.417/.482 in 23 games, and I think he’ll be a good value for people who buy early in the redraft season. In 2023, he hit 20 home runs and stole 36 bases in 105 games across two levels. Source: https://razzball.com/arizona-diamondbacks-top-10-p... |
10/24/24 | Diamondbacks could have in-house replacements should Christian Walker, Joc Pederson depart. 9/08/24 | Diamondbacks' top prospect Jordan Lawlar returns from injury. Jordan Lawlar, the Arizona Diamondbacks' top prospect, made his return from injury on Sunday for the Double-A Amarillo Sod Poodles. Despite being MLB Pipeline's No. 8 overall prospect, Lawlar has been limited to just 14 games this year due to a string of injuries. Playing for the Sod Poodles on Sunday, Lawlar struggled at the plate and went 1-for-5 with two strikeouts. Source: https://arizonasports.com/story/3557475/jordan-law... |
9/07/24 | Diamondbacks Minor League System Updates for Reno and Amarillo. As the MLB regular season winds down, so too does the Minor League season. Here are a few notes about the Arizona Diamondbacks affiliate Reno Aces and Amarillo Sod Poodles. Jordan Lawlar: It's not known at this time whether Lawlar will make it back in time from his hamstring injury to play in any games for the Aces. Torey Lovullo was hopeful, but also said that the team is planning for Lawlar to play Winter Baseball to make up for at-bats lost. Source: https://www.si.com/mlb/diamondbacks/arizona-diamon... |
8/14/24 | Who are the Arizona Diamondbacks' top prospects?. MLB Pipeline on Tuesday released its latest top 100 prospects rankings and updated each team's top 30 list, and there was some movement and additions to the Arizona Diamondbacks' list. Shortstop Jordan Lawlar and outfielder Druw Jones remained Arizona's first- and second-ranked prospects, respectively. Lawlar, MLB's No. 9 overall prospect, recently turned 22 but has suffered through a string of injuries this year which has limited him to just four games at Triple-A Reno. Thumb and hamstring injuries have plagued the 2021 sixth overall pick this season after he slashed .278/.378/.496 with 20 home runs and 36 stolen bases in the minor leagues last season between Double-A Amarillo and Triple-A. 7/28/24 | The Athletic's top 60 prospects include Jordan Lawlar, Druw Jones. The Athletic released its midpoint top 60 MLB prospects list on Thursday, and two Arizona Diamondbacks made the list. The D-backs' Jordan Lawlar, who has reminded some scouts of Derek Jeter, is the No. 4 overall prospect. Lawlar would be the No. 2 prospect on the list, but he's played just 13 games in 2024 and suffered his third significant injury of the season, reaggravating the hamstring injury he suffered while rehabbing from a torn thumb ligament. Availability is a skill, and Lawlar has also missed a ton of development time this year. Source: https://arizonasports.com/story/3552262/the-athlet... |
