It's the dynamic combination of Lawlar's ability to drive the baseball and run so fast, along with top-level infield defense, that makes him one of the most intriguing prospects in the game. It's a tiny spring training sample size with some of those at-bats coming against minor league pitching, but it's also a tantalizing taste of what kind of upside he has. In that article I listed Jordan Lawlar among the long shots to make the roster. The basis for this evaluation comes primarily out of comments made by General Manager Mike Hazen, emphasizing the need for Lawlar to play every day and continue to develop his offensive game. Arizona Diamondbacks top rated prospect Jordan Lawlar is currently playing winter ball in the Dominican Republic for Tigres del Licey. Lawlar was first called up to the major leagues for the stretch run in 2023, making his major league debut on September 7, 2023. SS Jordan Lawlar \| 21 \| MLB \| 2023 The sixth overall pick in the 2021 draft, Lawlar was on schedule to take over the shortstop spot at some point in 2024 but lost a huge chunk of the season to a thumb surgery. He played well when he played in the minors, slashing .318/.417/.482 in 23 games, and I think he’ll be a good value for people who buy early in the redraft season. MLB Pipeline on Tuesday released its latest top 100 prospects rankings and updated each team's top 30 list, and there was some movement and additions to the Arizona Diamondbacks' list. Shortstop Jordan Lawlar and outfielder Druw Jones remained Arizona's first- and second-ranked prospects, respectively. Lawlar, MLB's No. 9 overall prospect, recently turned 22 but has suffered through a string of injuries this year which has limited him to just four games at Triple-A Reno. Thumb and hamstring injuries have plagued the 2021 sixth overall pick this season after he slashed .278/.378/.496 with 20 home runs and 36 stolen bases in the minor leagues last season between Double-A Amarillo and Triple-A. The D-backs' Jordan Lawlar, who has reminded some scouts of Derek Jeter, is the No. 4 overall prospect. Lawlar would be the No. 2 prospect on the list, but he's played just 13 games in 2024 and suffered his third significant injury of the season, reaggravating the hamstring injury he suffered while rehabbing from a torn thumb ligament.
