4/18/25 Angels, in rare return home, open set vs. Giants. The Los Angeles Angels will begin a three-game series Friday night against the San Francisco Giants in Anaheim, Calif., after playing 15 of their first 18 games on the road. Angels first baseman Nolan Schanuel went into the offseason looking to improve his numbers from last season. The 13 home runs overall were a disappointment, as 19 major league first basemen hit more long balls than Schanuel last year. Schanuel, who went 1-for-4 with a run in the Angels' 5-3 road loss to the Texas Rangers on Thursday, has hit two home runs this season -- which would put him on a pace for 18, an improvement from last year.

4/14/25 If baseball's season were as short as football's, the conversation about parity would be different. Los Angeles Angels' Nolan Schanuel runs the bases after hitting a solo home run during the second inning of a baseball game against the Houston Astros, Sunday, April 13, 2025, in Houston. Imagine this scenario: With two games left in the season, the Los Angeles Angels lead the AL West by a half-game, needing just one victory over second-place Texas to clinch a remarkable worst-to-first division title and their first postseason berth since 2014.

4/13/25 Angels’ Nolan Schanuel has improved his numbers with better bat speed. Schanuel is one of just three everyday players in the majors to increase his bat speed by at least 3 mph from last year to this year. His average and OPS are also up from last season. He hit his first homer of the season on Saturday.

4/02/25 Former Chicago Cubs World Champion Continues Historic Dominance of St. Louis Cardinals. For the second consecutive night, the Los Angeles Angels beat the St. Louis Cardinals in extra innings at Busch Stadium. The 9-7 win has the Angels at 4-1 on the young season while the Cardinals are 3-2. Both teams are in first place in their respective divisions. The Halos had a balanced, 10-hit attack offensively, punctuated by a triple from Nolan Schanuel and doubles from Luis Rengifo and Yoan Moncada. Though he didn't factor into the decision, Kyle Hendricks was excellent in his first start with the organization. The longtime Cubs' hurler went 6.0 innings, giving up two earned runs on seven hits. He walked none and struck out four. His dominance of the Cardinals is nothing new, as he also

3/03/25 Ryan Noda looks for bounce-back to win spot on Angels bench. After a solid season in 2023, Noda slumped in 2024 with a swing change encouraged by the A's. Now, he's in Angels camp looking to rediscover what he did two years ago. He has a chance to win a spot as first baseman Nolan Schanuel's backup.

2/26/25 Angels' Nolan Schanuel looks for more power with improved bat speed. Nolan Schanuel went into his winter with a couple clear objectives. The Angels' first baseman is now confident he's done both. Although it's counterintuitive to think that more bat speed could ever be a negative, Schanuel said so far he's finding he's “catching everything a little out front too much.” Having more bat speed means he's got to adjust his timing for when to start his swing.

1/31/25 Angels 2025 spring training position preview: infielders. Angels pitchers and catchers are scheduled to report to spring training on Feb. 11. First baseman Nolan Schanuel hit 13 homers with a .706 OPS in his first full season, which wasn't much for an everyday first baseman, but more than acceptable for a player who was in college in 2023. After that, though, the Angels had problems. Luis Rengifo was having strong year, with a .763 OPS, but he missed most of the final three months with a wrist injury that required surgery.

1/02/25 MLB insider hints at possible position change for Angels first baseman. The entire Angels' roster is under evaluation by the top-brass and everything is fluid. For the past year-and-a-half, the Los Angeles Angels have rolled with Nolan Schanuel as their primary first baseman.

9/24/24 Angels rookie Nolan Schanuel says he’s learned what it takes to play every day. Schanuel, who was in college last year, says it took time this season for him to adjust to the rigors of playing every day in the majors. Manager Ron Washington says it’s been a year of “total growth” for the 22-year-old first baseman.

8/28/24 Angels’ defense remains a work in progress, with a few positive signs. Manager Ron Washington has put a focus on defense, but most of the metrics show the Angels have been below average, as a whole. First baseman Nolan Schanuel, shortstop Zach Neto and right fielder Jo Adell have been the bright spots.

8/10/24 Angels can’t find a big hit late in 10-inning loss to Nationals. The Angels go 1 for 13 with runners in scoring position, and the top three hitters in their order – Nolan Schanuel, Zach Neto and Logan O’Hoppe – combine to go 0 for 15 overall. Jo Adell hits a two-run homer, but he leaves six runners on in his other three trips.

8/08/24 Angels’ Nolan Schanuel says Christian Moore has what it takes to be in big leagues. Schanuel, who sped from the first round of the 2023 draft to the majors after just 19 minor league games, played with Moore in the Cape Cod League. Moore, the Angels’ first-round pick last month, started his pro career with 12 hits and four homers in his first five minor league games.

7/03/24 Angels first baseman Nolan Schanuel's confidence soars with recent hot streak. Nolan Schanuel's performance on Tuesday night summed up all that's going right for him these days. The Angels rookie first baseman swung at 10 of the 11 pitches that he saw in the strike zone. “Right now he's not afraid of who's out there throwing,” Angels manager Ron Washington said. Schanuel said the conversation with hitting coaches Johnny Washington and Tim Laker took place around mid-June.
