4/14/25 Umpire trolled by LASIK company for atrocious call in Giants game. Home plate umpire Tony Randazzo fell victim to Giants catcher Patrick Bailey's elite framing skills in San Francisco's win over the Philadelphia Phillies on Monday.

4/02/25 San Francisco Giants' Bob Melvin Loving What He Is Seeing From His Ace on the Mound. The San Francisco Giants know that if they are going to be competitive this season, it will be on the back of their pitching. Manager Bob Melvin is still seeking the right combination to rely on for the lineup, as there are a few players off to startlingly slow starts. Two starters, catcher Patrick Bailey and first baseman LaMonte Wade Jr., are hitting under .100. Star free-agent addition, shortstop Willy Adames, hasn't heated up yet, hitting .158 with one double, still waiting for his first home run with his new team.

3/27/25 Giants rally in ninth to spoil Opening Day for Reds. Patrick Bailey singled home the tying run with two outs in the ninth and Wilmer Flores broke the tie one batter later with a three-run homer as the visiting San Francisco Giants rallied for a 6-4 win over the Cincinnati Reds in the season opener for both clubs on Thursday. Tyler Rogers (1-0) pitched a scoreless eighth for the win. Ryan Walker gave up a run-scoring single to TJ Friedl before retiring Matt McLain on a fly ball just short of the wall in left to record the save.

2/24/25 Former All-Star Catcher Would Be a Perfect Fit for San Francisco Giants. The San Francisco Giants have one of the better starting catchers in the MLB in Patrick Bailey. Buster Posey and the front office should take a chance on a former All-Star still looking for a team. James McCann is still a free agent after spending the last two season backing up Adley Rutschman for the Baltimore Orioles. In his 11-year career, McCann has slashed .241/.293/.380 with 92 home runs, 373 RBI and he has been worth 8.1 Wins Above Replacement.

2/20/25 Where Giants' Bailey ranks on ESPN's top 10 MLB catchers list. Giants catcher Patrick Bailey is heading into the 2025 MLB season as one of the best in his position. Well, at least that's according to ESPN's Buster Olney, who recently ranked the league's top 10 catchers, with Bailey at No. 9 on the list. After all, in 2024, the 25-year-old became the fourth Giants backstop to earn a Gold Glove and the first since Buster Posey in 2016.

2/14/25 Murphy expected to be Bailey's backup but Giants have options. The Giants are run by one of the best catchers in MLB history and have a catcher as their manager. Patrick Bailey is coming off his first Gold Glove Award and enters his third season as a heavy favorite to win another one. Bob Melvin plans to keep leaning heavily on Bailey, who rarely asks for a breather, but when the manager needs the backup, there will be a familiar answer. President of baseball operations Buster Posey and general manager Zack Minasian brought three new catching options to camp, but Posey said this week that he doesn't see anyone other than Tom Murphy being Bailey's backup at the end of camp.

1/08/25 San Francisco Giants Forced To Select Athletics Slugger in 2020 MLB Redraft. The San Francisco Giants are happy with their results from the top of the 2020 MLB draft, but would likely not get the chance to take the same player if they did it all again today. Baseball America recently did a redraft of that specific draft and the original Giants pick was off the board by the time they were on the clock. Back in 2020, San Francisco selected catcher Patrick Bailey. Bailey hasn't become a consistent threat on offense yet, but is an elite defender.

12/24/24 San Francisco Giants Gold Glove Catcher Projected For Huge Season. The San Francisco Giants have made some huge offseason moves already and hope they aren't done just yet, but as is the case for every team that doesn't win the World Series, the most important development will have to come from within. One player who took a huge step from 2023 to 2024 and will try to improve even further in 2025 is Giants catcher Patrick Bailey. After a beyond solid rookie season in 2023 in which he finished in the top-ten for the National League Rookie of the Year, Bailey won a Gold Glove in 2024. While the offensive output was similar to his rookie season and not anything to write home about, there's confidence the bat will come along for the 25-year-old.

12/20/24 San Francisco Giants' Patrick Bailey Established Himself as Breakout Star. The San Francisco Giants star catcher isn't always consistent at the plate, but no one is more reliable behind it. Patrick Bailey had a solid rookie campaign and went into 2024 hoping to capitalize. One thing is undeniable, Bailey has established himself among the best defensive presences in all of baseball. As MLB.com's Will Leitch put together a list of eight breakout stars that have puts themselves on a nice trajectory, the Giants catcher was the first player named.

12/17/24 Patrick Bailey Highest-Rated San Francisco Giants Player in Fangraphs Rankings. The San Francisco Giants have taken strides toward being competitive in the National League West under their new president of baseball operations Buster Posey. Posey is a legend in the Bay Area after spending 12 years with the Giants as their superstar catcher, helping lead the club to three World Series Championships during his tenure. There is a new sheriff in town behind the plate for San Francisco calling pitches, and his name is Patrick Bailey. Bailey may not be the offensive threat the Posey was as an all-around spectacular catcher, but Bailey more than makes up for it with his defensive ability.

9/24/24 SF Giants continue late-season streak with 11-0 rout of D'backs, clinch 3rd straight series. Patrick Bailey launched a second-inning home run and four teammates followed with their own as the San Francisco Giants continued to romp through their final road trip of the season, despite being eliminated from playoff contention. With an 11-0 rout over the Diamondbacks (87-71), the Giants (79-79) claimed their third of three series on the trip and achieved something that had evaded them all season. The loss cut Arizona's lead a playoff position down to half a game, while the Giants will go for their second sweep of the trip and attempt to extend their late-season winning streak to six games Wednesday (6:40 p.m.) with Mason Black on the mound against D'backs ace Zac Gallen.

9/11/24 San Francisco Giants Have Outside Chance at Making Unique Franchise History. The playoff hopes for the San Francisco Giants have dwindled to nearly zero. Alas, there is also some history that could be made by the 2024 Giants. Last Thursday, catcher Patrick Bailey hit a walk-off double to defeat the Arizona Diamondbacks at Oracle Park. As shared by Grant Brisbee of The Athletic, that is putting this year's team within reach of a franchise record.

8/29/24 SF Giants activate Patrick Bailey, DFA backup catcher. Patrick Bailey was back behind the plate Thursday for the Giants' series finale against the Brewers. Bailey was activated from the injured list after a minimum 10-day stay with an oblique strain. In a corresponding move, the Giants designated Andrew Knapp for assignment, leaving them with Bailey and Curt Casali as their catching duo — at least until rosters expand to 28 on Sunday. The Brewers have gone 3-for-3 stealing bases over the first two games of the series, so the Giants were looking forward to getting Bailey's defensive acumen back.

8/23/24 Real reason former All-Star Game MVP rejected Giants' offer. The San Francisco Giants are gearing up for a push toward the postseason. As of August 23, the Giants are 4.0 games back in the Wild Card standings and missing out on Diaz is a small setback. The 10-year veteran rejected their offer because even after the return of Patrick Bailey from the 10-day injured list, Diaz's roster spot wouldn't be guaranteed, according to reporting from Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle.

8/21/24 San Francisco Giants Move Young Star Back to Injured List After MRI. The San Francisco Giants placed catcher Patrick Bailey on the 10-day injured list with a right oblique strain, per the team. To take his place, the Giants recalled Jakson Reetz from Triple-A Sacramento to take the open roster spot. Until Bailey returns, Curt Casali will be the starting catcher. San Francisco entered Tuesday's action one game above .500 and were 3.5 back of the final Wild Card berth.

8/20/24 Dissecting Patrick Bailey's second-half struggles as SF Giants place catcher on IL. Standing in front of his locker Monday night with an ice pack wrapped in athletic tape around his right torso, Patrick Bailey smiled and snickered. The Giants' catcher rarely hits on the field before games; he prefers to get his pregame work done in the batting cages in between prepping with that night's pitcher. Bailey was scratched from the Giants' lineup before the first game of the series and on Tuesday was placed on the 10-day injured list after an MRI revealed a strained right oblique. Jakson Reetz was recalled from Triple-A Sacramento to back up Curt Casali, who started behind the plate for the second straight game.

8/20/24 Giants' Patrick Bailey drops crucial injury update after absence vs. White Sox. The San Francisco Giants are trying to stay alive for the postseason by racking up wins against the worst teams in the MLB. First, they defeated the Oakland Athletics 4-2 on Monday, and now, the Giants beat the Chicago White Sox 5-3 for a quick two-game win streak that put them at 64-63, good enough for fourth place in the National League West. “Patrick Bailey called his side tightness 'very, very minor' and that he was a precautionary scratch,” as reported by Andrew Baggarly on X, formerly Twitter.
