3/06/25 San Francisco Giants Send Two More Top-Ten Prospects Back To Minor League Camp. The San Francisco Giants have continued to trim down their spring training roster and what the team will look like on Opening Day is starting to take shape. Just one day after optioning both former top prospect Marco Luciano and right-handed pitcher Mason Black while outright returning current top prospect Bryce Eldridge to minor league camp, the Giants sent two more high profile prospects back down as well on Thursday morning. As first reported by Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle, San Francisco optioned right-handed pitcher Trevor McDonald and outright returned left-handed pitcher Carson Whisenhunt to minor league camp.

3/05/25 Eldridge, Luciano among SF Giants' first wave of spring training cuts. SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — The San Francisco Giants announced their first wave of spring training roster cuts, a list of players that's headlined by top prospect Bryce Eldridge and outfielder Marco Luciano . Luciano and right-handed pitcher Mason Black were the two Giants who were optioned. Eldridge, right-handers Kai-Wei Teng and Cole Waites; and left-handers Raymond Burgos, Miguel Del Pozo and Ethan Small were reassigned to minor league camp. Eldridge, 20, made a notable first impression during his first big league spring training, hitting a 450-foot home run in the Giants' Cactus League opener against the Texas Rangers. Despite that impressive swing, Eldridge went 2-for-11 with eight strikeouts during

2/15/25 Struggling San Francisco Giants Infielder Changing Positions this Spring. The San Francisco Giants have remained patient with Marco Luciano. The former international free agent needed six years to make his Major League debut. Only now, the Giants will be waiting on them as Luciano gets used to playing in the outfield. Manager Bob Melvin told reporters on Friday, including NBC Sports Bay Area, that Luciano would play the corner infield spots this spring to find more ways to get him playing time.

2/14/25 SF Giants' Luciano hoping to 'find myself' after disappointing 2024 season. Marco Luciano, by his own admission, was “totally lost” in the batter's box last season. A year removed from being the heir apparent to Brandon Crawford, Luciano enters camp trying to win a spot on the bench — as an outfielder. Luciano is in a new position, defensively and organizationally. Over the next six weeks, he'll be tasked with proving he deserves a spot on the Giants' Opening Day roster.

1/26/25 Top San Francisco Giants International Prospect Attempting Position Change. The San Francisco Giants will likely be seeing a position change for 2018 international free agent signing Marco Luciano. Per NBC Sports Bay area, he has been reported to be changing to the outfield this offseason after working predominantly as a shortstop and second baseman previously, which is not particularly an easy transition to make. In his 2,909.1 innings played in the field with the Giants organization, he has never played outside the infield, and has exclusively stuck to the middle infield spots. The report made it clear that he has worked primarily in left field this offseason to prepare for spring training.

1/22/25 Where Giants prospect Eldridge ranks on Baseball America's Top 100. With Bryce Eldridge's meteoric rise through the Giants' farm system set to continue in 2025, the rest of the baseball world is well aware of the young slugger's talent. Eldridge comes in at No. 12 on Baseball America's Top 100 Prospects list for 2025, which was released Wednesday and ranks players for their long-term MLB impact, representing San Francisco's highest-ranked position player since Marco Luciano peaked at No. 12 in 2021. "Eldridge is one of the biggest position players in the minors, and his power lives up to every expectation foretold by his 6-foot-7, 225-pound frame," Baseball America said of the 20-year-old. "No longer a two-way player, Eldridge has focused on being one of the best young power prospects in the game."

9/28/24 San Francisco Giants' Executive Expressed Regrets. Farhan Zaidi, President of Baseball Operations for the San Francisco Giants, is in danger of losing his job. On the "Tolbert & Copes" show, Zaidi talked about how he handled young players coming up through the system. There have been plenty of complaints in Giants world about this, whether it be the handling of Marco Luciano or Luis Matos, and Zaidi recognizes that. There are instances of them doing the 'sink or swim' that have worked out.

9/27/24 San Francisco Giants Top Prospect Working at New Position. Shortly after learning that Marco Luciano would once again be changing positions, the San Francisco Giants are going to be moving one of their outfield prospects to the infield. On the latest episode of 'Giants Talk' on NBC Sports Bay Area, insider Alex Pavlovic reported that Wade Meckler has been getting work at second base. Meckler is currently the 16th best prospect in the San Francisco system, according to MLB Pipeline.

9/25/24 San Francisco Giants Need To Get Over 'Mad Pursuit of Mediocrity'. The near-best case scenario for the San Francisco Giants over the final stretch of the regular season still doesn't paint an ideal picture of recent years. As The Athletic's MLB staff pointed out recently, the Giants are fighting for chance to do something that hasn't been done in almost a decade. With an undefeated record over their final five games, they could become just the second team since the 2013-2015 New York Mets to have a .500 record over a three-season span. "San Francisco's mad pursuit of mediocrity, after all, must be the reason they spent two weeks not playing Marco Luciano before sending him to the minors to work on his outfield defense, right," asked Tim Britton.

9/21/24 How Marco Luciano has handled up-and-down rookie season with SF Giants. It was around this time last year that the Giants' top baseball official declared him their shortstop heading into this season. Marco Luciano is taking it all in stride. In a 10-minute interview prior to the Giants' series opener against the Royals, Luciano was courteous, diplomatic and professional, even if he had every right to be confused about the organization's handling of the player considered their top prospect since he was 17 years old. Only after being mathematically eliminated Sunday was Melvin comfortable inserting Luciano into the starting lineup, and only with Mason Black, not one of their premier starting pitchers, on the mound.

9/20/24 San Francisco Giants Are 'More Confused' Than Ever About Young Shortstop. Among the many things that have gone wrong for the San Francisco Giants in 2024, the situation regarding Marco Luciano might be the biggest deal. Luciano, once viewed as one of the top prospects in Major League Baseball, has yet to find a consistent role at the Big League level. No matter the level of prospect he once was, asking Luciano to be a star when he's played in 40 games is an unrealistic ask. If the Giants don't understand that, there are even bigger issues on hand.

9/09/24 San Francisco Giants Infielders Have Heated Dugout Argument After Error. The San Francisco Giants were able to walk out of Petco Park with a win over the San Diego Padres on Sunday, but it wasn't all that friendly in the dugout. Marco Luciano and Tyler Fitzgerald collided after they both went for a fly ball, the two teammates then had to be separated in the dugout after an argument started to get heated. Third base coach Matt Williams acted quickly to break it up before things went too far and turned into into a coachable moment for the two rookies. Luciano said that he called for the ball, but Fitzgerald couldn't hear him because of how loud Petco Park had gotten.

9/08/24 Watch Luciano, Fitzgerald get separated in dugout after misplay. Frustration is setting in for the Giants as they close in elimination from playoff contention, and a misplay between two of their young players on Sunday led to noticeable tension. Second baseman Marco Luciano and shortstop Tyler Fitzgerald had to be separated in the dugout by third base coach Matt Williams following the bottom of the seventh inning.

9/07/24 San Francisco Giants Top 30 Prospects Rankings See Final Re-Shuffle. Baseball America wrapped up its final prospect rankings of the 2024 regular season as it unveiled its Top 30 prospects for the San Francisco Giants on Friday. The site had already ranked first baseman Bryce Eldridge as a Top 100 prospect, moving him up to No. 37. Now, the site has re-ranked the rest of the system, with infielder Marco Luciano — who is with the Giants — was ranked No. 2. San Francisco promoted him shortly after rosters expanded on Sept. 1 with the hope of giving him additional playing time to determine his fit for next season.

9/06/24 San Francisco Giants Rookie Doesn't Have Long To Earn Full Time MLB Job. The San Francisco Giants are giving their rookie another look at the MLB level, but another weak stretch could have big implications in the long term. MLB.com's Maria Guardado looked around the Giants' roster for the person with the 'most to prove' down the stretch and came up with rookie Marco Luciano. "Once viewed as the shortstop of the future [in San Francisco], Luciano is now expected to get an extended look at second base in September and try to show that he's capable of learning the position on the fly in the Majors," said Guardado. "If he continues to look shaky on defense, the Giants may need to reevaluate where the 22-year-old rookie fits best into their long-term plans and whether they'd be better served seeking out more middle infield help in free agency this offseason."

9/04/24 What Giants have planned for Luciano, Matos after latest promotions. For the second time in a month, Marco Luciano is in the big leagues with the promise of a long runway to show what he can do. Tuesday afternoon's call-up from Triple-A was the third of the year and second since the All-Star break for Luciano, although the last one proved to be much shorter than he expected and the Giants said it would be. After dumping Jorge Soler's salary on the Atlanta Braves, they talked of letting Luciano be the everyday DH, but it wasn't long before Jerar Encarnacion, Michael Conforto and others were soaking up those at-bats. This time, Luciano is up as a second baseman, and there's a lot less competition there.

9/03/24 San Francisco Giants Top Prospect One Step Closer to Big Leagues. On Monday, it was reported that the San Francisco Giants decided to promote their top prospect, Bryce Eldridge to Double-A Richmond. Eldridge was the Giants first round pick in 2023 and at just 19-years-old, he is yet another step closer to the Major Leagues. The move was reported by Roger Munter of ThereRGiants.com. Eldridge was moved to the top prospect in San Francisco's system after Marco Luciano and Kyle Harrison graduated, but given that he was drafted out of high school just last year, he seemed to be far away still.

8/25/24 Potential San Francisco Giants Trade Target Could Be Moved This Offseason. Right now, all the focus is on the San Francisco Giants getting into the playoffs. What that could mean for the roster is unclear, but there is a chance Farhan Zaidi won't be leading the charge this winter if the Giants aren't able to earn a Wild Card spot. In a perfect world, their top prospect Marco Luciano would become their full-time shortstop, allowing Tyler Fitzgerald to be used as a superutilityman.

8/15/24 San Francisco Giants Select Outfield Prospect, Option Struggling Infielder. The San Francisco Giants announced on Wednesday that they have optioned infielder/DH Marco Luciano and selected the contract of outfielder Grant McCray. Given the front office's comments about Luciano after the deadline, this move came as a bit of a surprise in that the Giants are currently in need of an everyday DH. McCray was just named the number 11 prospect in the Giants system in MLB Pipeline's new rankings, and has been a bit up and down in the system since he was drafted.
