5/11/24 Dodgers News: Diego Cartaya Is Driven To Prove 2023 Was An Outlier. Not too long ago, Diego Cartaya was on the fast-track to the Major Leagues and a spot on the Los Angeles Dodgers roster. Heading into 2023 he had garnered a lot of praise from inside and outside the Dodgers organization. In 2022, the Dodgers awarded Cartaya with the Branch Rickey Minor League Player of the Year and he was ranked as a Top 100 prospect by MLB Pipeline. Cartaya quickly rose the ranks of the Dodgers Minor League system since first signing with the team as an international prospect in 2018 and earned himself a promotion to Double-A Rancho Cucamonga for the 2023 season.

Diego Cartaya is in his fifth season with the Los Angeles organization since being signed as an international free agent out of Venezuela in 2018. The 22-year-old quickly established himself as one of baseball's top prospects, but he endured some struggles last year in his first action with Double-A Tulsa. Cartaya hit just .189/.278/.379 with 10 doubles, 19 home runs and 57 RBI over 93 games. “He's a really naturally talented player who's coming off a down year,” Friedman said.

Diego Cartaya shot up prospect boards since signing with the Los Angeles Dodgers as an amateur free agent out of Venezuela in 2018. After a stellar 2022 season, Cartaya was expected to take the next step in his career last year but hit a disappointing .189/.278/.379 in 93 games with Double-A Tulsa. “I think it does get a little bit lost how young he is, especially for (the) level,” Gomes said. Cartaya committed a career-high nine errors and threw out 19% of would-be base stealers in 68 games (65 starts) for the Drillers last year.

Five Dodgers were named to ESPN's list of top 100 prospects entering the 2024 season, a quintet topped by teenage outfielder Josue De Paula plus an appearance by catcher Diego Cartaya. Five is the most Dodgers so for on any national prospect list, with ESPN the only list to date to include Cartaya. Cartaya was the Dodgers' top prospect before last season, with an average rank across the sport of 21st, but he had a nightmare 2023, hitting just .189/.278/.379 with a 71 wRC+ and 19 home runs for Double-A Tulsa, though at only 21 years old he was among the youngest players in the Texas League.

The Los Angeles Dodgers once again boast some of Major League Baseball's top prospect talent, and two of their prized young catchers, Dalton Rushing and Diego Cartaya, rank among the best at their respective position. The pair have seen their stock flip in the Dodgers' system after a power-filled year for Rushing propelled him into a different light. The left-handed product out of Louisville, drafted in the second round of the 2022 MLB Draft, has shined thus far. In 89 games with the Great Lakes Loons, Rushing totaled an .856 on-base plus slugging with 18 doubles, one triple, 15 home runs, 53 RBI and 72 walks.

After a post All-Star break lull, allowing 20 runs (18 earned) in 9? innings over four starts, Karros has allowed only two runs (one earned) in 15 innings over his last three starts, with 15 strikeouts. 6/02/23 Diego Cartaya homers again Tulsa's comeback win. Oklahoma City and Tulsa were able overcome leads as they scored late inning runs to get wins in their games. Rancho Cucamonga had the tying run at the plate in the ninth but failed to get that last hit to win their game. Diego Cartaya extended his consecutive game streak with a home run to four tonight in Tulsa's one-run win over Wichita. The top prospect in the Dodger organization started slowly this season with a .562 OPS in April.
