Finding some solutions to get these 3 Chicago White Sox hitters out of an early-season slump Miguel Vargas, Andrew Vaughn, and Luis Robert Jr. are all off to terrible starts. By Todd Welter | Share on Facebook Share on X Copy Article David Reginek-Imagn Images Share on Facebook Share on X Share on Reddit Copy Article The Chicago White Sox offense is off to a terrible start. The Sox's bats rank at the bottom of the league in average, slugging percentage, and OPS. A big reason can be directed toward three hitters the White Sox are counting on to provide some damage in the lineup are off to terrible starts. Miguel Vargas, Andrew Vaughn, and Luis Robert Jr. are all hitting well south of .200. Before

4/11/25 Inside the freak play that handed the Guardians a win. Baseball's unpredictability is part of its charm, but what happened in the ninth inning of Wednesday night's game between the Cleveland Guardians and Chicago White Sox stretched the boundaries of baseball logic into the realm of the surreal. With the bases loaded, two outs, and the Guardians clinging to a two-run lead, White Sox batter Miguel Vargas hit what appeared to be a game-tying single to left field. As runners broke from every base, outfielder Mike Tauchman – who had just returned from the injured list with a hamstring issue – suddenly pulled up lame while rounding third base. What should have been the tying run transformed into the final out as Steven Kwan's throw easily beat the hobbling Tauchman to the plate.

By Andrew Meyers | Share on Facebook Share on X Copy Article Miguel Vargas continues to hit poorly in the middle of the White Sox lineup. | Geoff Stellfox/GettyImages Share on Facebook Share on X Share on Reddit Copy Article We've come a long way since Opening Day. The Chicago White Sox are 1-8 since their blowout win to begin the season and have lost six straight . Chicago scored 15 runs in its eight losses as the offense has regressed to the mean it provided in 2024. Not everything has been dull. 3/31/25 Patient at-bats aid White Sox in 9-0 blowout win. The Sox' first-inning patience set the tone for Monday's 9-0 win. Third baseman Miguel Vargas drew a walk after an eight-pitch at-bat, constantly fouling off pitches to stay in the at-bat. It was a change from the ninth inning of Sunday's game when Vargas swung at a 91.8 mph cutter, resulting in a pop up and failing to advance runners on first and second base. Vargas then advanced to second after a wild pitch by Twins starter Chris Paddack.

3/27/25 At White Sox Opening Day, time marches on even as some things never change. Right over the plate and into the catcher's glove, White Sox leadoff man Miguel Vargas watched it go. The record will show it was Angels lefty Yusei Kukuchi who struck out Vargas in the first Sox at-bat of what promises to be a long, hard slog of a season. My own record will show it took all of one Sox at-bat before my mind began to drift back to better days for the South Siders … for example, to the last time a Sox season began with a leadoff batter hitting safely. It was 2020, and Tim Anderson greeted it with a base hit to left.

3/14/25 White Sox' Miguel Vargas is more confident after good offseason, spring training. Not that Miguel Vargas should add the weight of expectations on his shoulders or anything, but knowing the White Sox parted with Erick Fedde, Michael Kopech and Tommy Pham to land him and two prospects from the Dodgers in a three-team trade at the deadline last season, know that general manager Chris Getz would really like to see the third baseman succeed. The same goes for everyone in camp, but Vargas batted .105 for the Sox after the deal and at times looked like a forlorn puppy a thousand miles removed from his former team as it marched toward a World Series championship while he was slogging along with one tumbling toward 121 losses.

3/11/25 Could this White Sox infielder finally reach his potential after a stellar spring?. Miguel Vargas has had an outstanding spring and has been hitting the cover off the ball, but could these numbers be a sign that he's turned a corner? The Chicago White Sox are inching slowly closer to the start of the regular season after having a terrible Cactus League record.

2/25/25 White Sox News: Miguel Vargas update, Mike Clevinger, former All-Star passes away. For the Chicago White Sox, the 2025 season is all about the future. Clevinger made just four appearances in an injury-ravaged 2024 season with the South Siders but is just two years removed from a 2.2 fWAR campaign in which he made 24 starts and worked to a 3.77 ERA. Fangraphs isn't exactly bullish on Clevinger in the 'pen, either (projected 0.0 fWAR), but given their projections don't show a single Sox reliever being good for even 1.0 fWAR, he'll at least provide a veteran presence if nothing else.

Former trade acquisition Miguel Vargas is seen as the leading candidate for third base with the Chicago White Sox, according to a report from James Fegan on Bluesky. Will Venable said the White Sox view Miguel Vargas as their primary option at third base. Vargas, 25, is a former top prospect who was acquired by the White Sox during the 2024 season from the Los Angeles Dodgers.

1/25/25 Will latest White Sox rebuild take shape? Miguel Vargas is bigger and stronger, so there's a start. Miguel Vargas delivered the first “best shape of my life” declaration at SoxFest Live, less than three weeks before spring training even began. The major-league-ready player White Sox general manager Chris Getz acquired in exchange for right-handers Erick Fedde and Michael Kopech and outfielder Tommy Pham in a three-team deal with Dodgers and Cardinals at the trade deadline last summer, Vargas struggled mightily with the Sox, batting .104/.217/.170 with two homers and a .387 OPS in 157 plate appearances.

Andrew Vaughn reached base with two outs in the ninth before Robert Suarez struck out Gavin Sheets to seal the team's fate. They did it. The White Sox have lost their 120th game on the season. They also dropped to 0-102 when trailing after eight innings. The White Sox have six games remaining to try and avoid setting the modern standard for futility outright. 8/24/24 White Sox newcomer Miguel Vargas struggling to find rhythm after deadline trade. Miguel Vargas was the White Sox' big get before the July 30 trade deadline. Interim Sox manager Grady Sizemore implied Vargas is pressing too hard as he tries to impress in his new surroundings. “When you're coming into an organization, you want to impress people and you want to just go off,” Sizemore said before the Sox' game Saturday against the Tigers. Acquired from the Dodgers as part of the three-team deal that sent Michael Kopech to Los Angeles and Erick Fedde and Tommy Pham to the Cardinals, Vargas' Sox tenure has gotten off to a slow start.
