4/25/25 Seattle Mariners Starting Pitcher George Kirby Takes Major Step in Recovery. The Seattle Mariners starting rotation hasn't been at full strength for almost three months. Starting pitcher and 2023 All-Star George Kirby was shut down March 7 during spring training due to right shoulder inflammation. The initial tentative timeline had Kirby returning in late April, but a return in mid-to-late May or early June more likely at this point. Kirby has been hitting all the benchmarks in his recovery and took the latest step in his rehabilitation before the Mariners game against the Miami Marlins on Friday.

4/23/25 Several Metrics Show That Seattle Mariners Starting Rotation is Uncharacteristically Struggling. Through 23 games, the Seattle Mariners are in a relatively solid spot. Sure, George Kirby is out, but the group of Logan Gilbert, Bryan Woo, Bryce Miller, Luis M. Castillo (and Emerson Hancock and Luis F. Castillo) haven't lived up to their reputation thus far.

4/10/25 Seattle Mariners Make Roster Move on Off-Day, Leading to Further Questions. The Seattle Mariners are still searching for the short-term replacement to starting pitcher George Kirby. The 2023 All-Star was shut down during spring training March 7 with right shoulder inflammation. In his stead, Emerson Hancock has started a game and Luis F. Castillo (different from three-time All-Star and fellow Mariners starting pitcher Luis M. Castillo) has made a pair of starts. Seattle is still looking for an answer and optioned Luis F. Castillo to the Triple-A Tacoma Rainiers on Wednesday.

4/07/25 Julio Rodriguez Gives Optimistic Outlook Despite Seattle Mariners 3-7 Start. If you check social media, you'd think that the sky is falling for the Seattle Mariners. The team is 3-7, in last place and already 5.0 games back of the Texas Rangers. Furthermore, George Kirby is still out with injury and we have no idea when he'll be back. Jorge Polanco is already being bothered by the knee that he had surgically repaired this past offseason, and Victor Robles appears set to miss real time with a shoulder injury.

3/31/25 Seattle Mariners Allow First-Inning Onslaught in 9-6 Loss to Detroit Tigers. The Mariners dropped under .500 (2-3) with the loss. In his first start of the year filling in for right-handed pitcher George Kirby (on the injured list for right shoulder inflammation); Seattle starting pitcher Emerson Hancock allowed six earned runs on seven hits (one home run) to the Tigers in just 0.2 innings pitched. Half of Hancock's six runs allowed were with two outs, adding to the frustration. Detroit went 11 batters deep before the Mariners got out of the top of the first and the audience's displeasure slowly dissipated back to typical levels.

3/22/25 Seattle Mariners' All-Star Provides Optimistic Outlook After Shoulder Injury. The Seattle Mariners won't have All-Star pitcher George Kirby when they break camp and head north for the regular season next week. Kirby was shut down on March 7 with right shoulder inflammation and just threw for the first time since then on Friday. “It might be a situation where guys who got five or six more starts than I did, I might be feeling a little better in October,” Kirby said. As long as Kirby makes it through the entire season without further issues, there's certainly a chance that what he's saying happens.

3/15/25 Seattle Mariners Ace Logan Gilbert Still Looking For Ways to Improve For 2025. The Seattle Mariners starting rotation has been deservedly praised over the last year. The group already had two All-Stars on its staff (George Kirby, Luis Castillo) and Logan Gilbert made that number three last season. It's hard to imagine Gilbert having a season better than what he accomplished in 2024.

12/19/24 Mariners' Luis Castillo trade pitch lands Orioles' 27-year-old slugger. Seattle Mariners ace Luis Castillo has seen his name surface in trade rumors recently. Seattle has starting pitching depth with George Kirby and Lucas Gilbert ready to take on even more prominent roles. Castillo is owed just over $24 million in each of the next three seasons.

12/17/24 A 30-plus homer threat could come aboard the Mariners this offseason. The Seattle Mariners desperately need infield offense but don't seem willing to pay free-agent market price. Could a still-affordable first baseman be available in trade? Seattle has been on the outside looking in of the playoffs in 22 of the past 23 years since back-to-back runs to the American League Championship Series at the turn of the century. The Mariners have a stable of top young pitching in George Kirby, Logan Gilbert, Bryce Miller, and Bryan Woo, who have been deemed untouchable by Jerry DiPoto, the team's president of baseball operations.
