The Washington Nationals' lineup suffered a few key losses recently, with the left side of their infield going down with injuries. First, it was All-Star shortstop CJ Abrams, who was dealing with a strained right hip flexor. In a corresponding move, the team optioned Trey Lipscomb back to Triple-A Rochester. It was a decision that raised some eyebrows, as it meant Nasim Nunez would be remaining with the Major League club despite Abrams' return to the lineup. 2/25/25 | Washington Nationals Star Took Major Step Forward To Address His Weakness. The Washington Nationals know what type of season they have signed themselves up for this year. With the opportunity to be aggressive in the free agency market to bring in some established stars to boost the roster, they opted to continue on their path of rebuilding, allowing their young players to get more reps in 2025. While there are building blocks in place with CJ Abrams and Luis Garcia Jr. up the middle, and the top-end duo of MacKenzie Gore and Jake Irvin leading the rotation, the Nationals are hoping James Wood can continue his upward trajectory and Dylan Crews showcases the ceiling that prompted him to be taken second overall in the 2023 draft. Crews will be given time to learn on the job. Source: https://www.si.com/mlb/nationals/news/washington-n... |
1/25/25 | 'Timing is Right' for Washington Nationals to Add Star Slugger to Lineup. It has been a somewhat busy offseason of late for the Washington Nationals, who have been trying to improve their roster heading into 2025. For the last two years, the Nationals have won 71 games. While that isn't ideal, they have been in a rebuilding mode after winning the World Series back in 2019. Last year, CJ Abrams and Luis Garcia Jr. each took a big step forward in their games. 1/23/25 | Washington Nationals Could Be 'Surprise' Landing Spot for Former All-Star. The Washington Nationals have made some nice moves so far this offseason, but there is still a lot of work to do. It was another rebuilding year for the Nationals in 2024. For the second consecutive year, Washington was only able to win 71 games. 2024 saw the rise of CJ Abrams and Luis Garcia Jr. becoming All-Star caliber infielders. A dynamic duo has emerged in the middle infield with shortstop CJ Abrams making the All-Star team and Luis Garcia Jr. Up the middle in the outfield, the Nationals have one of the best defensive center fielders in baseball with Jacob Young. Flanking him in left field is James Wood. Source: https://www.si.com/mlb/nationals/news/washington-n... |
1/10/25 | Washington Nationals Could Make Smart Move Targeting All-Star Slugger. The Washington Nationals are coming off another 71-win season and are looking to make sure that they take a step forward in 2025. For the past two years, the rebuild of the Nationals has resulted in 71 wins. Despite being stagnant in the win column, last year did provide a reason to be optimistic about the future. The young core of Washington is really coming along nicely with CJ Abrams and Luis Garcia Jr. leading the way. Source: https://www.si.com/mlb/nationals/news/washington-n... |
12/31/24 | High School Star Projected to be Washington Nationals' Top Prospect Next Year. The Washington Nationals have done a great job of stockpiling high-upside talent over the last few years during their rebuild. The San Diego Padres can certainly be thanked for their role in that. All-Star shortstop CJ Abrams, left fielder James Wood and ace starting pitcher MacKenzie Gore were all acquired from the Padres. As was outfielder Robert Hassell III, who was San Diego's top-ranked prospect at the time of the trade. Source: https://www.si.com/mlb/nationals/news/high-school-... |
11/18/24 | Washington Nationals Top Prospect Projects as All-Star Caliber Player. The Washington Nationals are heading into the offseason looking to improve on what was a step in the right direction last year. Despite winning just 71 games in 2024, the Nationals are a team that appears to have a bright future ahead of them. It has been a lengthy rebuild for Washington after their 2019 World Series title. Shortstop CJ Abrams was able to make his first All-Star team, and Luis Garcia Jr. proved that he is going to be the second baseman of the future. 11/09/24 | Young Nationals Outfielder Becoming a Top Commodity in Fantasy Baseball Drafts. It is never too early to think about the future, and that is a sentiment that rings true with the Washington Nationals as well as in fantasy baseball. The Nationals have been working through a rebuild that began shortly after winning the 2019 World Series, the first in franchise history, but this time the rebuild looks to be much shorter than those in the past. The quick turnaround has come on the back of strong player development, with guys like CJ Abrams and Luis Garcia Jr. taking strides forward in 2024, and highly-touted prospect Dylan Crews beginning to find his footing in the Majors as the season drew to a close. The young player who has proven to be the biggest piece of that player development success so far, however, has been another outfielder, James Wood. 11/03/24 | Washington Nationals Should Solve Power Issue With Free Agent Addition. Heading into this offseason, the Washington Nationals have a few clear needs on their roster. Last season, the Nationals hit only 135 home runs, which was the second-fewest in baseball. The leader on the team was All-Star shortstop CJ Abrams, who had 20 and was the only player to reach that plateau. There is certainly potential for someone such as left fielder James Wood to develop into an incredible power hitter, but adding a bonafide threat to the lineup would help immensely. 9/27/24 | Nationals GM Mike Rizzo says long-term view of CJ Abrams is unchanged despite demotion. WASHINGTON (AP) — Washington Nationals general manager Mike Rizzo said Friday his long-term view of CJ Abrams has not changed after the team's decision to demote the All-Star shortstop last week. Abrams was optioned to Triple-A Rochester on Saturday for the final nine days of the regular season for what the team described as an internal matter. The 23-year-old reported to Washington's training complex in West Palm Beach, Florida, this week. “He's still our guy,” Rizzo said during an end-of-season conversation with reporters. “We love him and he's going to be a great player for us. Optioning him out wasn't the end of the world. We have a standard here and we have to keep people accountable. He Source: https://wgnradio.com/sports/ap-nationals-gm-mike-r... |
