The sky is blue, the canvas is blank and even the Chicago White Sox haven't lost a game yet. But the reality is Opening Day is full of questions, too. The Los Angeles Dodgers went to Opening Day last year with James Outman as their center fielder, Jason Heyward as their right fielder, Tyler Glasnow as their starting pitcher and Evan Phillips as their closer. Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder James Outman has struggled ate the plate this spring, but he got a major vote of confidence from his team this week. The bounce-back performances came after Dodgers manager Dave Roberts told The Athletic on Friday that Outman "doesn't look comfortable" swinging right now. The Dodgers must have liked what they saw this past weekend because they informed Outman that he will be a member of their 31-man travel roster for next week's Tokyo Series against the Chicago Cubs in Japan, according to The Athletic. 2/26/25	After promising start, James Outman trying to find his place again with Dodgers. James Outman's big-league career couldn't have gotten off to a much better start. Called up from Triple-A in July 2022, Outman hit a home run in his first major-league at-bat then became the first Dodgers rookie to have three (or more) hits in his MLB debut since Mike Piazza in 1992. 7/06/24	Dave Roberts Details Dodgers' Plan For James Outman. James Outman was demoted to Triple-A Oklahoma City in May because the Los Angeles Dodgers needed a roster spot for Jason Heyward coming off the injured list, and now the outfielders have replaced one another for a second time. The Dodgers put Heyward on the 10-day IL on Friday because of a left knee bone bruise. There had been initial concern he suffered structural damage, but manager Dave Roberts said an MRI revealed the meniscus and other ligaments in Heyward's left knee remained intact. Since James Outman struggled in the majors and got sent back down to Triple-A, the Dodgers have needed extra help in the outfield. On Friday, the Los Angeles Dodgers optioned James Outman to Triple-A Oklahoma City as part of a series of roster moves, which made room for Jason Heyward and Miguel Vargas. After a promising rookie campaign during the 2023 season, Outman has been experiencing a sophomore slump so far in 2024. In addition to Outman's struggles at the plate, the emergence of rookie outfielder Andy Pages also played a part in the Dodgers' decision to option him. Heyward experienced a couple of setbacks as he was going through the rehab process for his injured lower back, so Pages was initially called up as temporary high-end replacement with the possibility of an expanded role if he was able to perform at the Major League level.
