4/16/25 Yankees could make surprise trade for Athletics' 27-year-old role player. The New York Yankees don't have an obvious solution at third base, which means trades will remain a hot topic for the foreseeable future. In a year where the Yankees expect to compete for a second-straight World Series berth, a combination of Oswaldo Cabrera and Oswald Peraza at the hot corner isn't going to cut it. The selection of third basemen around the league who will be available this summer is tough to project.

4/16/25 Yankees might poach $22 million All-Star from AL East rival in blockbuster trade. It's never too early to start thinking about potential trade deadline targets for the New York Yankees. The Yankees are in win-now mode virtually every season, and 2025 is no exception. Oswaldo Cabrera and Oswald Peraza have formed a platoon at third so far this season, but it's been a largely unsuccessful one. On Tuesday, Dylan Sanders of Yankees on SI proposed Tampa Bay Rays slugger Yandy Díaz as a possible trade option for New York to improve its offense at the hot corner.

3/10/25 Deja vu! Yankees still running bases like drunks. Oswaldo Cabrera was one of three Yankees who were thrown out on the bases during Sunday's game against the Cardinals. AP By Randy Miller | NJ Advance Media for NJ.com It's a shame that John Sterling didn't come out of the retirement again to get back in the Yankees ' radio booth for Sunday's spring training game in Jupiter, Fla. It would have been fun hearing a recreation of one of most famous calls of last October's World Series run. 1/24/25 Yankees urged to acquire projected $56 million Gold Glover: 'Good idea'. The New York Yankees still look to be one piece away from a complete offseason. As things stand, either D.J. LeMahieu or Oswaldo Cabrera would have the starting job at third base. Fortunately, there's still time before the Yankees head down to Florida for Spring Training, and the free-agent pool still includes an intriguing name to potentially take over the second-base job, allowing Jazz Chisholm Jr. to shift back to third.

10/07/24 Injured Anthony Rizzo serving as 'Mr. Miyagi' for Yankees' first base beginners. As Oswaldo Cabrera, Ben Rice and Jon Berti fielded groundballs at first base during the Yankees' first postseason workout on Oct. 1, Anthony Rizzo watched from the shallow infield grass with his hands in his hoodie pocket. With his right hand carrying two fractured fingers, the result of a hit-by-pitch on the second-to-last day of the regular season, Rizzo played the part of coach. As his teammates – all relatively inexperienced at first base – took reps at the position, the Gold Glover stopped them, chatted them up and offered pointers. Rizzo, unable to heal in time for the ALDS, has remained a presence around the team.

10/04/24 What the hell happens in the Yankees' hitters' meetings, and why are umbrella hats required?. Earlier this season, Casey Dykes walked into the Yankees' pregame hitters' meeting wearing a blue umbrella hat. Why, the Daily News wondered, would the assistant hitting coach need such headwear for a meeting about the opposition's pitching staff? “I don't wanna answer that,” said Oswaldo Cabrera, typically bubbly and open with reporters. “I don't have an answer for that one,” insisted lead hitting coach James Rowson, who cracked up at the question.
