Yankees reliever Scott Effross exited Tuesday's spring training game against the Twins after throwing one pitch with an apparent injury. Effross was grabbing near his hamstring before he walked off the mound with a team trainer, according to the New York Post. Depending on the severity of this injury, it could be a brutal blow for Effross as the right-hander has missed the majority of the last two seasons due to injuries. Optioning Scott Effross down to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Thursday morning to make room for starter Luis Gil was just the first domino to fall. Effross recently made his return to the Yankees' bullpen after almost two years on the IL. When Effross made his season debut this past Sunday, he was lit up by the Cardinals at Yankee Stadium, giving up four batted balls with an exit velocity over 100 mph including a booming two-run home run. Despite my pleading, the Yankees traded for the wrong* Cubs reliever, and Robertson was shipped to the Phillies, where he helped them make their first World Series appearance since 2009 (back when he was a youngster on the other side).
