Associated Press Nov 22, 2024, 01:30 PM ET Email Print Open Extended Reactions DENVER -- Left-hander Lucas Gilbreath and the Colorado Rockies agreed to a $785,000, one-year deal ahead of Friday's deadline for teams to offer contracts to unsigned players on their 40-man roster. The 28-year-old had Tommy John surgery on March 14, 2023, and returned to the major leagues last Aug. 16. He also pitched on Aug. 22 and 25, then went back on the injured list with left shoulder inflammation. Gilbreath had been eligible for salary arbitration. He is 5-2 with a 4.36 ERA in 96 relief appearances and one start over three major league seasons. Source: https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/42546340/rocki... |
8/20/24 | Lucas Gilbreath pushed through “brutal, frustrating” rehab to pitch for Rockies again. There were butterflies the size of pterodactyls fluttering around Lucas Gilbreath's tummy when he took the mound at Coors Field on Friday night. “It was awesome,” the Rockies lefty reliever said. Because of elbow and shoulder injuries, Gilbreath, 28, had not pitched in nearly two years before he took the mound in the seventh inning of Colorado's 7-3 win over the Padres. Gilbreath got Luis Arraez to fly out to deep right field and induced Jurickson Profar to ground out weakly to first base. Source: https://www.fortmorgantimes.com/2024/08/20/lucas-g... |

7/17/23 | Legacy's Lucas Gilbreath, now with the Rockies, fighting his way back from injury. From the moment Legacy High School grad Lucas Gilbreath began his professional baseball career, he became accustomed to the type of grind it takes to find success in a sport where any given error can spell disaster. Over the past few months, the Colorado Rockies left-handed pitcher has taken that lesson to heart as he works his way back from Tommy John surgery. “It was pretty rough,” Gilbreath recalled. 4/11/23 | Tuesday Rockpile: Lucas Gilbreath on rehabbing from Tommy John and becoming a TikTok influencer. Coming off a 2022 that saw Lucas Gilbreath having a solid (if, at times, uneven) season, it's safe to safe that 2023 has not been the season he was hoping for. Rather than heading to the Colorado Rockies' bullpen to pitch in relief during games, Gilbreath instead found his season interrupted by Tommy John surgery. “The arm's feeling good,” Gilbreath said, lifting a left arm supported by a heavy brace. The rehab has been fairly standard. Source: https://www.purplerow.com/2023/4/11/23673102/color... |
3/17/23 | Colorado Rockies' Lucas Gilbreath's plan while injured: Study analytics and go viral on TikTok. Mar. 17—SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Lucas Gilbreath wasn't sure how to break the news to his TikTok followers that his season was over. He built up a modest following during the offseason and had promised his fans that he would continue providing the content they've come to love during the season as well. Except now he was in a sling, out for at least a year after getting Tommy John surgery a week ... Source: https://sports.yahoo.com/colorado-rockies-lucas-gi... |
3/07/23 | Tuesday Rockpile: What moving Kris Bryant to right field means for the Rockies' outfield. The Rockies have already gotten the injury bug early into the Spring Training with the unfortunate news of Lucas Gilbreath possibly needing Tommy John surgery and Brendan Rodgers could miss the entire season with complications from a shoulder injury suffered last week. The news of Rodgers being sidelined the entire 2023 campaign has led to speculation on how the Rockies will now fill the hole at second base. Although some have speculated that Kris Bryant be moved to third and Ryan McMahon take over second, due to past experience at those positions, Kris Bryant is more likely to move outfield positions rather than join the infield corps. 12/08/22 | Crafting a Gameplan for the Rockies Bullpen, Pt. 4: The Lefties. It’s a four-seam fastball thrown from an average release point and with roughly average extension and vertical carry, but it has a huge amount of glove side cut for a four-seamer, as you can see here. If you want to get a picture of how much of a hard time batters have had squaring this pitch up, consider the following: Lucas Gilbreath vs MLB Avg Also, Gilbreath has thrown this pitch almost 70% of the time as a big leaguer. 9/06/22 | Tuesday Rockpile: Without Gilbreath and Kinley, the bullpen must push on. The Colorado Rockies find themselves at the bottom of a unique National League reliever category — one that makes a season-ending injury to Lucas Gilbreath even more costly: The Rockies have used 16 total relievers if position players Randal Grichuk and Brian Serven are factored out. Colorado must reallocate Gilbreath’s work for the 26 games that remain in 2022. Rewind to June: an ulnar nerve injury to Tyler Kinley was an abrupt ending to a potential All-Star campaign. 9/05/22 | Rockies lose Lucas Gilbreath for the season; Jose Iglesias facing an MRI. Left-hander Lucas Gilbreath, who flashed promise as a late-game reliever, won’t pitch again this season, manager Bud Black said Monday before the Rockies hosted the Brewers at Coors Field. Gilbreath, who’s been on the injured list since Aug. 28, is dealing with a left elbow flexor strain. He is expected to get a PRP (platelet-rich plasma) injection this week. 7/05/22 | Colorado native Lucas Gilbreath making big strides in Rockies' bullpen. More than anything, he’s been more consistent in the strike zone,” manager Bud Black said. His fastball has played and his velocity has ticked up over a period of time. And he has the ability to throw the fastball at the top of the zone, where hitters take a rip at it, but also it’s a borderline strike if the hitter takes it. 4/19/22 | Rockies recall Stephenson and Gilbreath from COVID-IL, send Sheffield and Welker to Triple-A. The best bullpen in baseball (so far) just got a lot more menacing: Lucas Gilbreath and Robert Stephenson have returned to the big league club after their placement on the COVID-IL just hours before Opening Day. The current 1.88 ERA by Rockies relievers has been strengthened by two arms that combined to post some of the club’s strongest bullpen figures of 2021 (Gilbreath, 3.38 ERA; Stephenson, 3.13). Both pitched a scoreless inning with Triple-A Albuquerque on Sunday. Source: https://www.purplerow.com/2022/4/19/23032665/color... |

Lucas Gilbreath: 0.9 rWAR It’s no secret that we here at Purple Row are incredibly high on left-handed Colorado native Lucas Gilbreath, and it’s not without merit. The southpaw earned all the praise he’s been given during a breakout 2021 campaign. Prior to 2021, Gilbreath had never pitched above High-A, and hadn’t pitched in-game since the 2019 minor league season. Source: https://www.purplerow.com/2021/11/2/22747044/color... |
8/30/21 | After an offseason breakthrough, we're watching Lucas Gilbreath develop in real time. Before the start of the 2021 season, left-handed Colorado native Lucas Gilbreath hadn’t pitched since 2019 due to a pandemic leading to the cancellation of the 2020 minor league season. Before that, he had never pitched above High-A. Now, in the waning days of the 2021 season, Rockies fans are watching Gilbreath blossom into a Major League reliever before their eyes. Since June 8th, Gilbreath has appeared in 19 2/3 innings through 22 games. Source: https://www.purplerow.com/2021/8/30/22645851/color... |
8/01/21 | Rockies' Lucas Gilbreath, a Legacy High grad, flashing promise. But in a lost season in which manager Bud Black admits a number of young relievers are getting their “baptism by fire,” Gilbreath has displayed encouraging flashes of talent in his 19 2/3 innings. This has been a big jump for him,” Black said, noting that Gilbreath was hurt by an inability to pitch in the minors last season because of the pandemic. Being thrust into the major leagues, after not pitching for a year, and changing his role from a starter to a reliever, is a big transition. 7/28/21 | Colorado Rockies game no. 102 thread: Lucas Gilbreath vs. Andrew Heaney. After last night’s four hour blowout, the Rockies have an opportunity to win another road series. It would be just their second road series win after earning their first just before the All-Star break in San Diego. To get the job done, the offense will need to replicate just some of the firepower they showed yesterday. Source: https://www.purplerow.com/2021/7/28/22598208/color... |

The Rockies signed Rosscup on a minor league spring invite in 2020 and he spent all of last year at the alternate site, only to elect free agency in November.
