4/26/25 Rested Tigers brace for doubleheader vs. Orioles. The Detroit Tigers got an extra day of rest on Friday. The teams will play a split doubleheader on Saturday in Detroit. The Tigers will start right-hander Casey Mize in the opener, and rookie righty Jackson Jobe is expected to get the nod in the nightcap. Mize (3-1, 2.22 ERA) held the Royals to one run and four hits over seven innings last Saturday in a 3-1 victory in his longest start in four seasons.

4/23/25 Detroit Tigers Might Have Found Another Gem in Newest Young Bullpen Arm. The Detroit Tigers are off to a tremendous start this season and are among the best teams in the American League. Understandably, the starting rotation has received a ton of the credit. With multiple stars along with a major reclamation project in Casey Mize as well a future superstar in tantalizing young rookie Jackson Jobe, the rotation has a ton of juice and is a fun talking point. As a unit, the bullpen boasts a 2.76 ERA and a 1.03 WHIP, all while allowing a total of just 25 earned runs, all figures which place Detroit within the top-five across all of baseball.

4/21/25 Former No. 1 picks Mize and Torkelson are giving the AL Central-leading Tigers a boost, finally. When the Detroit Tigers returned to the postseason last year for the first time in a decade, they did it without great production from Casey Mize and Spencer Torkelson. Those two were supposed to be cornerstones of their rebuild after being taken No. 1 overall in the 2018 and 2020 drafts. But Torkelson hit .219 last year, and Mize posted a 4.49 ERA. Now both of them are starting to show why they were picked at the top of the draft. The 27-year-old Mize is 3-1 with a 2.22 ERA this season. Torkelson is still just 25, and he already has seven home runs in 2025.

4/21/25 Former No. 1 picks Mize and Torkelson are giving the AL Central-leading Tigers a boost, finally. This is a sight the Tigers probably expected a lot more often by now: Casey Mize pitching seven strong innings, and Spencer Torkelson hitting a three-run homer to lead Detroit to a 3-1 victory. There's still time for both of them to make big contributions to the team that drafted them No. 1 overall. When the Tigers returned to the postseason last year for the first time in a decade, they did it without great production from Mize and Torkelson, who were supposed to be cornerstones of their rebuild. Torkelson hit 31 home runs in 2023 but managed only 10 (with a .219 average) last season.

4/19/25 Casey Mize, Tigers look to extend Royals' 5-game skid. Casey Mize endured some bad luck in his first loss this season. The Detroit Tigers right-hander will seek a better outcome against the visiting Kansas City Royals in his fourth start on Saturday afternoon. Mize allowed just one run total in his first two starts, then gave up four runs and seven hits in 5 2/3 innings against the Minnesota Twins on Sunday. Byron Buxton and Edouard Julien hit solo homers off him, but the other two runs came on a seeing-eye hit and a fielding mistake.

3/13/25 Casey Mize is Now Throwing 106 MPH For the Detroit Tigers According to Graphics Mistake. Fighting to make the Detroit Tigers starting rotation, right-hander Casey Mize has apparently upped his velocity to 106 MPH. The Tigers were taking on the Tampa Bay Rays. The 27-year-old Mize was the No. 1 overall pick in the draft back in 2018 (Auburn), but it's been a rocky road for him since getting into the majors. As of now, the Tigers rotation will be carried by Tarik Skubal and Jack Flaherty, with Reese Olson likely having the third spot.

3/12/25 Detroit Tigers RHP Casey Mize Continues Dominant Spring Training Streak. Casey Mize has had an up-and-down career since the Detroit Tigers picked him No. 1 overall in the 2018 MLB Draft, but 2025 is shaping up to be a huge year for the right-hander. Mize underwent Tommy John surgery midway through 2022, missing the entire 2023 campaign as a result. A left hamstring strain limited Mize to 20 starts in 2024, all while his ERA climbed to 4.49 and his WAR dropped to 0.1. The Tigers are sticking with Mize as a member of their starting rotation this season in spite of his inconsistencies, and he is taking full advantage of the opportunity in spring training.
