10/31/24 Twins' Alex Kirilloff retires from baseball, citing mental, physical toll of injuries. After years of his promising young career being disrupted by injuries, Alex Kirilloff has decided to retire from the game of baseball altogether, citing a mental and physical toll that led him to realize that his “passion for playing the game has shifted.” The surprising decision, which Kirilloff announced Thursday morning on social media, comes after his latest setback, a back injury, kept him off the field from June 11 through the end of the season. “Baseball demands an 'all-in' approach, something I've brought to every season,” he wrote.

6/18/24 Twins outfielder Alex Kirilloff is injured after all, says he'll be more open in the future. The Minnesota Twins will place outfielder Alex Kirilloff on the injured list after all with back trouble, six days after the struggling former top prospect was sent down to Triple-A. A contrite Kirilloff rejoined the Twins at Target Field on Tuesday for treatment, having acknowledged he understated the severity of his injury because he wanted to keep playing. Kirilloff had an MRI exam on May 26, the results of which did not suggest he'd need to be sidelined, but after the 2016 first-round draft pick was demoted he reported more significant soreness and pain in his lower back along with nerve-related discomfort running down his leg. "It's kind of hard to say something when you want to be out there every day, but at the same time, things need to be communicated at a high level here, especially when we're all trying to compete to win a championship," Kirilloff said.

6/14/24 In midst of a massive slump, Twins send Kirilloff to the minors. Whenever Alex Kirilloff slumped in past seasons, it was usually a sign he was battling an injury. He's healthy this year, by all accounts, and the Twins demoted him to Class AAA St. Paul following Wednesday's game. Kirilloff joins Edouard Julien and Matt Wallner in AAA after the three young lefty hitters struggled this season. Since May 3, Kirilloff was batting .135 with three homers, two ...

6/08/24 Pride of Plum finally plays first game at PNC Park. PITTSBURGH – Alex Kirilloff remembers standing on the third level of the PNC Park Rotunda, next to the left-field foul pole, with a friend during the 2013 National League wild card game. It became known as the Johnny Cueto game when the then-Cincinnati Reds pitcher dropped the ball on the mound after a raucous crowd started chanting his name. On the next pitch, Russell Martin hit a solo homer ...

5/01/24 Twins rally past White Sox for 10th straight victory. Yes, the Twins have taken advantage of a soft spot in their schedule — seven of those games came against the White Sox, a team that has won a major league-worst six games, and the other three came against the lowly Angels in Anaheim. It's taken contributions from everyone — and maybe some help from a lucky summer sausage that was tossed to Alex Kirilloff after his fifth-inning home run. The Twins trailed for much of the day after Bailey Ober gave up a pair of runs in the first inning.
