4/21/25 | So far, high-scoring Cubs passing early season NL West test with flying colors. The Dodgers, Padres and Diamondbacks — the three foes accounting for 20 of those 26 games — owned three of the five best winning percentages in the NL coming into Monday, with a combined .672 winning percentage. In other words, the early-season schedule hasn't been an easy one for the Cubs. “On paper, we knew this was going to be an April that presented challenges,” second baseman Nico Hoerner told the Sun-Times on Saturday. In addition to simply playing against these good teams, the Cubs have had to jet all over the country — heck, all over the world — to do so. 4/07/25 | This key Cubs veteran is off to a hot start coming off a winter of uncertainty. Doing a little bit of everything, Nico Hoerner has brought tremendous value to the team early on. 3/31/25 | Chicago Cubs help the Athletics open their new-to-them ballpark in West Sacramento. WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. — For Chicago Cubs second baseman Nico Hoerner, an Oakland native, Monday was a bittersweet day. The Cubs are part of the first major-league series played at Sutter Heath Park, a Triple-A stadium the Athletics are calling home for at least the next three seasons as they await their permanent new park to be built in Las Vegas. 3/28/25 | Nico Hoerner’s return gives the Chicago Cubs lineup a boost: ‘Nobody sees all the work that he had to put in’. PHOENIX — Nico Hoerner knew being ready for the Chicago Cubs opener in Japan was not a healthy goal. As much as the Cubs second baseman wanted to be with the team in Tokyo last week for their first two regular-season games, staying back at the team’s complex in Mesa, Ariz., was the prudent move if we wanted to be able to play in their domestic-opening series against the Arizona Diamondbacks. ... 3/17/25 | 2 Chicago Cubs players who have played their way onto Opening Day roster. The Chicago Cubs constructing their Opening Day roster for the 2025 season has a different feel to it given the team has two regular-season games against the Los Angeles Dodgers in Japan this week before resuming spring training play for another week. 31 players in total made the trip for the Cubs but the team will officially reveal thier 26-man roster on Monday. The 26-man roster the Cubs unveil on Monday assuredly will not be the same 26-man roster they have against the Arizona Diamondbacks on March 27. Specifically, Nico Hoerner did not travel with the Cubs to Japan but given the international play while spring training is still ongoing, the team was allowed to keep him in Arizona without having to place him on the IL. 3/07/25 | Chicago Cubs Make Massive Camp Cuts With Opening Day Against Dodgers Looming. The Chicago Cubs are starting to trim up their roster ahead of Opening Day. While other teams around the league are able to enjoy the normal spring training ramp up period, the Cubs and Los Angeles Dodgers weren't given that luxury when it was revealed those two would be traveling to Japan for a showcase event on March 18 and 19 to kick off the 2025 regular season. For one, Chicago will be without Nico Hoerner since he won't be recovered from his offseason surgery to be active for the first two contests of the year, although, the expectation is he'll be ready for their first games stateside. With that in mind, it will be interesting to see who the Cubs actually roster when it comes time to make the official decision. Source: https://www.si.com/mlb/cubs/news/chicago-cubs-mass... |

2/11/25 | Proposed Chicago Cubs Trade Swaps Stagnant Infielder for Intriguing Prospects. The Chicago Cubs have seemingly bounced back and forth between pursuing a trade involving second baseman Nico Hoerner. Hoerner is entering the last few seasons of club control and simply has not become to the type of player the team had hoped for offensively when he broke out early in his career. Zach Pressnell of FanSided came up with a trade idea that would send Hoerner to the New York Yankees in hopes of opening up a spot in the lineup for the best free agent remaining; Alex Bregman. It would make more sense for the Cubs to secure the Bregman signing first before trading Hoerner, similar to the Cody Bellinger and Kyle Tucker situation earlier this winter.
