4/25/25 On closers, Steven Kwan and other things: Guardians breakfast today. Five things to think about as the Guardians open a three-game series against the Red Sox on Friday night in their longest homestand of the season. Closer Emmanuel Clase: Is Clase's sore right shoulder serious enough to put him on the injured list? It was certainly alarming enough to keep him sidelined for all three of the games against the Yankees, who hit him hard during the American League Championship Series last year. The sooner the Guardians get clarity on Clase and the closer's role, the better they'll be.

4/23/25 Don't Read Into Guardians Recent Closer Decision vs. Yankees. The Cleveland Guardians still have one of the most dominant bullpens in baseball, even with Emmanuel Clase struggling in the closer role. This has sparked some conversations among fans about whether the Guardians should move Clase into some lower-leverage innings and let one of their other dominant relievers finish the game. Cade Smith got the ball in the ninth inning of Monday's series opener against the Yankees and recorded his first save of the season.

4/21/25 Guardians manager Stephen Vogt: Emmanuel Clase still owns the ninth inning. On the fourth day, Emmanuel Clase rested. Manager Stephen Vogt told reporters that closer Emmanuel Clase would not be available for Monday night's game against the Yankees because he pitched three straight games over the weekend against the Pirates. Vogt was quick to add that Clase, the two-time winner of the Mariano Rivera award as the American League's top closer, still owned the ninth inning for the Guardians despite his slow start to the season.

4/21/25 Guardians win in extras after Clase falters again. Emmanuel Clase allowed three runs in the ninth inning against Pittsburgh on Sunday for his second blown save of the season, and although he got the win when Cleveland prevailed in 10, it was another concerning outing for the right-hander.

4/20/25 Guardians win, but closer Emmanuel Clase falters again, blowing a 3-run lead in the 9th. The Cleveland Guardians are still waiting for Emmanuel Clase to regain his usual form. Clase allowed three runs in the ninth inning against Pittsburgh on Sunday for his second blown save of the season, and although he got the win when Cleveland prevailed 5-4 in 10, it was another concerning outing by the right-hander who finished third in the American League Cy Young race last year. Clase exceeded 40 saves each of the past three seasons and posted a 0.61 ERA in 2024.

4/16/25 Guardians Exec Delivers Strong Statement on Struggling Star. Cleveland Guardians closer Emmanuel Clase has not been good this season. Through eight appearances, Clase has allowed six runs on 15 hits over eight innings of work, posting an alarming 2.000 WHIP. Clase's rocky start has Guardians fans worried, especially considering how mortal he looked in the playoffs last October. "I can't think of anyone else we'd rather continue to hand the ball to in the eighth or ninth inning when we have a lead," Antonetti said on MLB Network.

4/14/25 Yankees May Have Broken This Guardians Star Who Must Respond. Last season, Cleveland Guardians closer Emmanuel Clase was one of the most dominant forces in all of baseball. Clase is healthy. Well, it's entirely possible that Clase's brutal showing in the playoffs last October may still be playing in his mind, so it may be a matter of the 27-year-old getting over this mental hurdle. Clase was rocked for eight earned runs in last year's postseason.

4/10/25 A look at closer options if Emmanuel Clase flames out: Guardians breakfast today. It's early, but Guardians All-Star closer Emmanuel Clase is on the skids. If not for Mike Tauchman's strained right hamstring in the ninth inning Wednesday night, Clase could have easily blown his second save of the season. It was a save that only Ernie Camacho, a frenzied Cleveland closer from long ago, could appreciate. After a near flawless regular season in 2024, Clase was knocked around by the Tigers and punished by the Yankees in the postseason.

4/10/25 White Sox lose in bizarre fashion after tying run injures hamstring trying to score. The Chicago White Sox are back to their old ways. After losing the most games in MLB history last season, the Southsiders lost a heartbreaker to their AL Central rivals Cleveland Guardians, 3-2, in a way only the White Sox could. The game is almost guaranteed to be over when Emmanuel Clase comes in, but the All-Star closer did not have his best stuff. Cleveland led, 3-1, going into the top of the night, but Clase loaded the bases, putting the tying run in Mike Tauchman on second base.

4/09/25 Carlos Santana homers, Cleveland Guardians hold on for 3-2 win over Chicago White Sox in unusual finish. Emmanuel Clase got his first save of the season, despite allowing three hits and a walk with two strikeouts, in a game that ended on a bizarre play. Tauchman, who just came off the injured list after a right hamstring strain, was tagged out by catcher Austin Hedges for the final out after the throw from left fielder Steven Kwan.

4/05/25 Guardians Pitcher Earns Monumental Comparison to Yankees Legend. The Cleveland Guardians one of the best bullpens of all-time last season, and it ultimately catapulted them to an AL Central division title and an ALCS appearance. The Guardians are hoping that their dominant relief pitchers will guide them once again in 2025, and while bona fide close Emmanuel Clase has actually shown some cracks early on, their other key relievers have been as advertised, with neither Hunter Gaddis nor Cade Smith allowing a run just yet. Gaddis in particular has caught the attention of Bleacher Report's Kerry Miller, who went as far to compare him to the undisputed best relief pitcher in MLB history.

3/22/25 Cleveland Guardians Star Closer Given Unsurprising Prediction. The Cleveland Guardians easily had the best bullpen in MLB during the 2024 season. While it'll be hard to repeat a team reliever ERA of 2.57, Cleveland is in line to have another elite group yet again this season. One key reason for this bullpen dominance is their three-time All-Star closer, Emmanuel Clase, who led the American League with 47 saves in 2024. Theo DeRosa of MLB.com polled 59 experts who made an unsurprising prediction for the 2025 season: that Clase will lead the American League in saves once again.

MLB.com's Brian Murphy published an article Sunday sorting through the responses from over 100 players when they were asked which pitcher they would want on the mound to get the final out of a Game 7. 3/03/25 Defense dampens Emmanuel Clase's spring debut as Guardians fall to Mariners, 7-2. The result might not have been typical of an Emmanuel Clase outing on Monday, but the stuff was sensational as the Guardians' All-Star closer made his spring training debut in Cleveland's 7-2 loss to the Mariners at Peoria Sports Complex. Clase allowed a run on two hits with a walk in 2/3 of an inning, striking out a pair.
