4/21/25 A new and improved Alonso? Do Mets or Phillies have better pitching? Early storylines that will decide the NL East. The Mets are off to a hot start thanks to Pete Alonso and a surprisingly dominant pitching staff that leads the majors in ERA. While winning the National League East isn't necessarily a must to reach the postseason, the early depth in the NL West, with four potential playoff teams, does suggest the possibility that only one East team might make the playoffs -- which makes these head-to-head matchups even more important.

4/20/25 Pete Alonso, Mets look to keep doing 'phenomenal job' vs. Cards. Pete Alonso is feeling as locked-in as he ever has as a professional, but he knows he's not the only reason for the New York Mets' fast start. The Mets will look to complete a sweep of the visiting St. Louis Cardinals on Sunday afternoon when the teams close out a four-game series. Clay Holmes (2-1, 3.66 ERA) is scheduled to start for the Mets against Sonny Gray (3-0, 3.13) in a battle of right-handers. Alonso continued his torrid run on Saturday after ripping a third-inning RBI double and an eighth-inning homer to lead the Mets to a 3-0 win.

4/19/25 Mets Notebook: Velo and pitch shapes ‘paying dividends’ for bullpen. While Pete Alonso, Juan Soto and Francisco Lindor have, predictably, been the Mets’ biggest stars through the early part of the season, the bullpen deserves some credit too. Call them the unsung heroes of the Mets. Their Amazin’ performances have helped protect the leads for the heavy hitters, and they show no signs of slowing down. The relief group’s 2.10 ERA is the third-best in baseball ...

4/18/25 Mets re-signing Pete Alonso looks like steal of offseason. The New York Mets are off to a hot start this season, owning a 12-7 record through their first 19 games played. The franchise is in first place in the NL East, and much of the success is thanks to the prolific play from Pete Alonso. In the offseason, the Mets managed to re-sign the 30-year-old first baseman to a two-year, $54 million contract. New York Yankees star Aaron Judge is the only player ranked ahead of Alonso.

4/15/25 Mets star Pete Alonso's mashing leaves awed coach thinking MVP. It was an eventful offseason for Pete Alonso, as he waited a long time to re-sign with the New York Mets on a two-year, $54 million deal, and he is setting himself up to have a much more successful trip to free agency next offseason with the start he has had so far this season. Mets hitting coach Eric Chavez went into what is leading to the early success for Alonso. “It just means he's seeing the baseball,” hitting coach Eric Chavez said, via Anthony DiComo of MLB.com. “He's able to recognize the spin, the pitches that are going to be in the zone, out of the zone.”

4/12/25 The simple approach Mets' Pete Alonso is using to demolish baseballs. New York Mets slugger Pete Alonso is having a solid season for the team. Alonso is working with new teammate Juan Soto to keep the offense going. Alonso is crediting a new approach he has taken to hitting for that success. “I just want to keep making good swings at good pitches whenever they come over the plate, and when they're not, just take and let it be a ball,” Alonso said, per MLB.com.

4/11/25 Mets could replace Pete Alonso with $100 million All-Star next season. The New York Mets can no longer go after Vladimir Guerrero Jr. in free agency. The easiest option for the Mets would be to give Alonso a five or six-year deal now that they no longer are holding out hope for Guerrero. Alonso is off to a strong start to the season, but he is already 30 years old. If Alonso opts out, which is likely, the Mets could target a younger option at first base.

4/11/25 Pete Alonso reveals stance on possible contract extension with Mets. The New York Mets' hot start to the 2025 regular season is largely owed to slugger Pete Alonso. Fresh off signing a two-year, $54 million contract with the Mets about a week before spring training began in February, Alonso has a .333 average, 1.118 OPS, 3 home runs, and 15 RBIs through 12 games. While Alonso is most likely going to cool off at some point, this is a great start for him in what's a pivotal season. The Polar Bear's two-year contract includes an opt-out after the first year, which seems all but certain he'll exercise (especially if he keeps hitting this way) to test the free agency market again and ideally sign the long-term deal that eluded him this past winter.
