4/08/25 | Cleveland Guardians Should Sign This Pitcher Immediately. The Cleveland Guardians entered the 2025 MLB season with some significant questions in their starting rotation, and those concerns have certainly manifested themselves in the early going. The Guardians once again have one of the worst starting pitching staffs in baseball, as they have managed just one quality start through their first nine games. Yes, Shane Bieber is slated to return from Tommy John surgery midseason, but how much he will actually be able to contribute after having not pitched for over a year remains to be seen (plus, Bieber has a checkered injury history as it is). Cleveland can always try and acquire some pitching at the trade deadline, but that is several months away, and we don't even know if the Guardians—who were 3-6 heading into their three-game series against the Chicago White Sox—will remain in contention that long. 4/01/25 | Guardians' Star Pitcher Receives Massive Injury Update. The Cleveland Guardians are banking on star pitcher Shane Bieber returning healthy from Tommy John surgery this season, and he appears to be making terrific progress. Bieber has been sidelined since last April, but he is working his way back and may be back on the mound sooner than many of us thought. As of the most recent injury update for Bieber, the right-hander could start throwing live batting practice later this month or in early May. This is a major development for the Guardians, who had one of the worst starting rotations in baseball without Bieber last season. Source: https://www.si.com/mlb/guardians/news/cleveland-gu... |
3/27/25 | 'A real organizational success story': Tanner Bibee's progression as No. 1 starter complete. With Shane Bieber, Gavin Williams and Triston McKenzie all hurt or struggling in 2024, Tanner Bibee stepped up as the club's No. 1 starter. 3/10/25 | Shane Bieber injury update: Guardians' Cy Young winner working way back from Tommy John. Shane Bieber made two brilliant starts before his 2024 season ended practically before it got going. Now, the Cleveland Guardians are awaiting the return of their ace from Tommy John surgery. Bieber went under the knife on April 12, 2024, meaning he's less than a year removed from the injury. The 2020 AL Cy Young winner was actually a free agent after the season, but he re-signed with the Guardians on a one-year, $10 million deal that also includes a $16 million player option for 2026. 3/02/25 | Guardians Coaching Staff Appear Encouraged With Shane Bieber's Rehab. The Cleveland Guardians are depending on Shane Bieber returning to the starting rotation sometime in the summer months to stabilize what could again be an unpredictable group during the 2025 season. Bieber is roughly 11 months removed from Tommy John surgery but has already made strong progress in his rehab. The former Cy Young winner threw his first official bullpen since the surgery at the beginning of spring training, and he keeps progressing from there. Cleveland's coaching staff appears very encouraged by Bieber's progress and appearance on the mound. Source: https://www.si.com/mlb/guardians/news/cleveland-gu... |
2/25/25 | Guardians Skipper Discusses Positive Progress Of Promising Pitcher. The Cleveland Guardians' starting rotation has already received considerable attention in the early days of spring training. Shane Bieber was seen throwing a bullpen session for the first time since Tommy John surgery, and Triston McKenzie looked sharp in his first spring game outing. One pitcher who has just as much intrigue surrounding him is Gavin Williams. Stephen Vogt spoke earlier this week about Williams' progress and offseason, and Cleveland's skipper appears very optimistic about what the 25-year-old can provide the team during a full season. 2/17/25 | Guardians Executive Discusses State Of Cleveland's Pitching Staff. The Cleveland Guardians have historically been one of the top teams in terms of pitching development and depth. Cleveland had the fourth-worst starter ERA (4.40) in the American League last season, and this was their Achilles heel all season. The Guardians' front office has made many moves this offseason to bolster their pitching depth, but there are still some questions about the overall staff. Cleveland's general manager, Mike Chernoff, recently appeared on MLB Network Radio on SiriusXM and discussed Shane Bieber, the bullpen, and the state of the Guardians' pitching staff. 2/15/25 | Guardians fans will love Shane Bieber's latest move. The Cleveland Guardians have become one of the most consistent teams in the American League. The Guardians have earned a spot in the postseason in 6 of the last 9 years, and there's little doubt that manager Stephen Vogt has a team that expects to get back to the playoffs once again in 2025. In the early days of spring training, Vogt and Guardians fans got encouraging news about Shane Bieber. Source: https://clutchpoints.com/guardians-news-guardians-... |
2/14/25 | Guardians provide update on Shane Bieber ahead of spring training. The Cleveland Guardians provided a positive update on RHP Shane Bieber's rehab. Following two impressive starts in 2024 where he threw 12 scoreless innings and posted 20 strikeouts, Bieber's elbow pain in his throwing arm became too much and required surgery. Bieber was out for the remainder of the 2024 season. Bieber underwent right ulnar collateral ligament reconstruction in April 2024, and has been working his way back for a return mid 2025 season. 1/26/25 | Guardians Linked to Two Intriguing Free Agent Pitchers. The Cleveland Guardians have made a few moves throughout the MLB offseason, but they could still use some more help. Adding another pitcher or two would be a wise decision. Looking at the current free agency market, there are still some good pieces available who could be had at bargain prices. Right now, the Guardians are projected to have Shane Bieber and Tanner Bibee at the top of their rotation, with Luis Ortiz being an intriguing option as well. 1/12/25 | Cleveland Guardians Connected to Former All-Star Pitcher. The Cleveland Guardians still have some work to do as far as their starting rotation is concerned, but most of the best names are off the market now in free agency. The Guardians did re-sign Shane Bieber, and they did swing a trade for Luis Ortiz, but it's clear that it would behoove them to still add at least one other pitcher for some depth. James Mastrucci of Away Back Gone has pitched an interesting suggestion for Cleveland: Lance Lynn. "At this stage in his career, Lynn might not be the most exciting name to add to Cleveland's rotation, but this is about taking a step to possibly avoid what happened last year," Mastrucci wrote. 1/08/25 | Cleveland Guardians Land Yet Another Discouraging Take. The Cleveland Guardians have made some moves this offseason, but not the kind that are really going to excite their fan base. Yes, they re-signed Shane Bieber, replaced Naylor with Carlos Santana and swung a deal for Luis Ortiz, but for the most part, the Guardians' offseason returns have been underwhelming. Well, Cleveland has landed yet another disappointing take in what has been a winter full of them, as the Guardians—who are in serious need of another outfield bat—were not even listed among Bleacher Report's Kerry Miller's top 10 potential suitors for free-agent slugger Anthony Santander. 1/03/25 | Guardians predicted to land $44 million veteran in trade with Cardinals amid rumors. The Cleveland Guardians seem like they have some work to do if they want to build on their run to the American League Championship Series from this past season. So far this winter the team has added some young pieces, re-signed Shane Bieber and Austin Hedges and signed veteran slugger Carlos Santana. But they've also lost Matthew Boyd, Alex Cobb and Carlos Carrasco, and traded away Andrés Giménez and Josh Naylor, as well as others. All told, their roster seems to have taken a step back at this point in the offseason. Bleacher Report's Kerry Miller called the Guardians a “pretender” in his latest roundup of playoff chances . “If Ben Lively manages to repeat what he did last season and if Shane Source: https://www.sportingnews.com/us/mlb/cleveland-guar... |
12/27/24 | Guardians Again Linked To Duo Of Cardinals Pitchers, Per Report. The Cleveland Guardians continue to be one of the most intriguing teams of the offseason. One area that the Guardians could still address is adding another starting pitcher to the roster. Yes, Cleveland has made some moves to address their rotation, but another veteran arm would help stabilize this group until Shane Bieber returns. The Guardians are reportedly interested in a duo of St. Louis Cardinals pitchers, Erik Fedde and Steven Matz. Source: https://www.si.com/mlb/guardians/news/cleveland-gu... |
12/21/24 | Guardians Predicted to Swing Shocking Trade for Superstar Pitcher. The Cleveland Guardians entered the offseason in dire need of starting pitching, and while they have made a couple of moves, re-signing Shane Bieber and swinging a trade for Luis Ortiz, they could still afford to add another arm. The problem is that the Guardians are a very frugal organization, so the chances of them splurging in the free-agent market are slim to none. The Guardians have long been known to make shrewd trades, so that may very well be their best chance of landing an impact pitcher. Bleacher Report's Zachary D. Rymer feels that is exactly what Cleveland will do, predicting the Guardians to land San Diego Padres star Dylan Cease. Source: https://www.si.com/mlb/guardians/news/cleveland-gu... |
12/20/24 | Guardians angling for possible $108 million addition this winter?. The Cleveland Guardians are coming off an impressive campaign that saw the team come within one step of returning to the World Series for the first time since 2016. Cleveland is still tinkering with its rotation as it prepares to build on the successes of 2024, re-signing former staff ace Shane Bieber while bidding farewell to Alex Cobb and Matthew Boyd. The Guardians have several talented young arms in the rotation to make up for the attrition until Bieber recovers from his Tommy John surgery and is healthy enough to join the rotation. 12/19/24 | Cleveland Guardians Fans Must Brace for Tough Reality. The Cleveland Guardians brought a whole lot of joy to their fan base during the 2024 MLB campaign, winning the AL Central and shockingly making it all the way to the ALCS. Not even the most diehard Guardians fans expected that sort of result, so it was certainly a magical year at Progressive Field. The Guardians entered the offseason knowing they had some very clear roster needs. Well, Cleveland did re-sign Shane Bieber, and it swung a trade for Luis Ortiz, but otherwise, the rest of the Guardians' offseason strategy has rung hollow. 12/18/24 | 3 Affordable Pitchers Guardians Can Sign in MLB Free Agency. The Cleveland Guardians had one of the worst starting rotations in baseball last season, and while things are looking up slightly for 2025, they still have some work to do. The Guardians were able to re-sign Shane Bieber, although he is a major question mark after coming off of Tommy John surgery. If all goes well, Cleveland should have a fine starting pitching staff that includes those two and Tanner Bibee, but if we've learned anything as baseball fans, almost nothing goes according to plan. The Guardians should still add another pitcher in free agency, and there are still some relatively affordable names out there. Source: https://www.si.com/mlb/guardians/opinion/3-afforda... |
12/12/24 | Braves Urged to Pursue Blockbuster Trade for Cleveland Guardians Star. The Cleveland Guardians have been very busy this week. Not only were they able to re-sign star pitcher Shane Bieber, but they pulled off two trades as well. While it has been very busy recently for the Guardians, they likely aren't done this offseason. Josh Naylor has been a name heavily talked about in the MLB rumor mill. It seems like there is a decent chance that he could end up being moved this offseason.
